Good morning everyone! We're finally almost up to date again in terms of tours! :-)) This one is from yesterday... We saved an absolute treat for the last day of our stay in Albany: Bald Head (Doggerdirrup)! A tough 12.5 kilometre hike (grade 4) out onto the Flinders Peninsula and back again! When we arrived at the car park, there were already a lot of cars here (so "a lot" in the sense of around 20-25 :-)) )! We started our last tour in cool and cloudy weather! Right at the beginning there was a decent climb to master! The one to Isthmus Hill! After that the path ran along a newly built non-slip boardwalk! Parks and Wildlife recently renovated the trail and did a great job! Great! :-) In the first half we were repeatedly treated to wonderful views of the dark and threatening ocean, as well as the incredibly beautiful coast, beaches and turquoise water! A dream! I would say that the difficult part of the trail began in the second third. It went steeply up and down, as well as over granite rocks! The path was not always easy to find here either. It was good that a few piles of stones usually helped out! When we reached Bald Head we were extremely happy! However, as the wind almost blew our teeth out of our mouths, we didn't stay here for long, but just fortified ourselves a little and set off on the way back! Now you have to be very tough, of course, because the weather suddenly improved and of course all the photos we took on the way there had to be taken again... :-)) We were happy when we got back to the parking lot. We had done it! One of the most important plans of our vacation had been put into action! I'll leave it at that. I hope you can let the pictures have an effect on you and that it is possible to recognize the immense power of the ocean and nature through them! Thank you for your interest and see you soon!
A very good evening from Denmark, WA! This hike, which I'm uploading today, was completed by myself and my father on Friday! We drove to the newly renovated parking lot at Bald Head and started our hike immediately! Officially, it's only 12 kilometers, but the trail is quite challenging! Until two years ago, the Bald Head Walk was a Grade 5 walk, the most difficult grade in Australia. However, the trails were then made somewhat easier and straightened, and some sections were even equipped with relatively secure planks, which is why it was reclassified as Grade 4! Anyway, a quick summary of the hike: Right after the start, the trail climbs steeply. You're rewarded with a magnificent view towards the Salmon Holes! After that, you walk along a ridge through coastal vegetation before the path descends again, offering a breathtaking view of the beaches north and south of the peninsula! The scenery is truly stunning! :-) The trail to the end of the peninsula, called "Flinders Peninsula," went up and down several times, some sections being very, very steep. In the last quarter, the path is barely visible as it runs over rocks. There aren't many markings, but you just have to stay on the path, and nothing can go wrong... :-)) Reaching the stone pyramid at our destination, we took a short break with beef jerky and lots and lots of water! Knowing what awaited us on the way back, we didn't linger too long! So, off we went to the car park! If anyone is planning this hike: It's more than 12 kilometers, sunscreen is a must, even if it's cloudy early in the morning, pack plenty of water, and allow 5-6 hours including photo and rest stops! PS: We also had our first snake sighting! We saw a carpet python slithering across the path, which is completely harmless! That's it for today, my cold pale ale is waiting! See you soon at the same place! :-)
