Hiking

It is considered the largest canyon in Germany. And the Wutachschlucht has more to offer than superlatives. The wild river valley is located in the middle of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park and impresses with primeval forests, spectacular gorges, and diverse flora and fauna.

Now it's your turn to explore the Wutachschlucht. Your starting point is the Wutachmühle. There is a bus stop and a parking lot here. You will hike upstream – along steep forest and rock faces. Next to the river, very close to you, the Kanadiersteg is also an eye-catcher – a covered wooden bridge.

Picnic areas are also located along your route. Choose a nice spot for your refreshment break. The tour ends at the Schattenmühle hiking parking lot – with a bus stop.

To ensure you can fully enjoy your tour in the Wutachschlucht, sure-footedness, a head for heights, and sturdy footwear are required. The narrow paths are often very wet and slippery. So, be absolutely careful and also pay attention to the local signs. Also, remember to bring enough provisions.

Wutach Gorge

Highlight (Segment) • Gorge

We hiked in the Wutachschlucht from the Wutachmühle to the Schattenmühle (around 13 kilometers). Good footwear and sure-footedness are recommended. Some passages are quite narrow, rocky and slippery. Walking sticks are more of a hindrance here. From Wutachmühle you can take the hiking bus to Schattenmühle or vice versa. An overwhelming hike.

Tannegger Waterfall

Highlight • Waterfall

The Tannegger Wasserfall is probably the most famous cascade of the Wutachschlucht. Over 15 meters deep, the water falls over mossy limestone walls that are bizarrely shaped and still growing.

One of our favorite hikes, Wutachschlucht from Schattenmühle to Wutachmühle.
We parked the car at the WP at the Wutachmühle and took the first hiking bus to Schattenmühle at 9:00 a.m.
The bus takes about 30 minutes to travel from Wutachmühle to Schattenmühle.
The hiking bus ran today for the last time this year.

Today we finally headed to the Wutach Gorge.

With perfect weather 🌞 and in a great mood, we set off from the Wutachmühle towards the Schattenmühle.

We were very lucky; it wasn't very busy for this famous gorge, and we were able to really enjoy the hike 🥰.
We even indirectly met a few fellow hikers, three women with a …

The Wutach Gorge is always a worthwhile experience. Great landscape, lots of butterflies, rare plants. This time we were hit by a cloudburst a few kilometers before the end. Instead we had a wet stop at the Schattenmühle. 🍴

Great tour from the start of Schattenmühle to Wutachmühle! Surefootedness and good shoes are absolutely necessary! It had rained heavily three days before, so the path was muddy in parts and slippery in the rocky passages.

A beautiful hike from Schattenmühle to Wutachmühle. A bit strenuous in places, as the paths are untouched and there are also fallen trees along them, but it's all manageable 🙂 At times, I felt like I was on my hikes in Madaira 🤗😍
Highly recommended 🤗

My dear Scholli, was that a tour.
The clock tells me almost 16 km, but komoot only almost 15 km 🤷‍♂️
Nonetheless, a strong performance from everyone, especially the children.

We started relaxed at the Schattenmühle.

Unfortunately, some parts of the route are closed due to landslides. There were nice sections, but unfortunately not enough of them and then there …

Today we went into the Wutach Gorge!
We took the hiking bus from the „Schattenmühle” parking lot to the starting point of our tour to the „Wutachmühle”.
Here we began our classic linear hike towards Schattenmühle through the gorge.
It went uphill and downhill, over stock and stone, stairs up and down, over or under tree trunks. Really the full …

On July 6th, 2022, the second hike in the Wutach Gorge was on the hiking menu. The starting point was the hiking car park at the Schattenmühle. In order to get there from my accommodation in Unadingn, I first had to take the bus to the Löffingen train station and from there take another bus to the Schattenmühle hiking car …
