Schoffsbesch Old Quarry

Highlight • Structure

An old quarry between Gilsdorf and Bettendorf in the middle of the forest. You can still see a few carts and large boulders. A nice place along the hiking trail.

3/5 ⭐, The hike through the Schoofsbesch nature reserve offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the beauty of the region. The first 4 km are narrow paths with wonderful views of Gilsdorf leading to the historic quarry of Bettendorf. Then it goes 2 km along field paths before the last kilometer leads back on the same path.

Nice walk. The walk does start with a serious climb, but after that it is quiet walking for 80% under the trees. Beautiful rock formations on which even trees grow. The roots are entwined in the crevices of the rocks. I can definitely recommend this walk.

We parked out of Gilsdorf and entered the Ösling Pad without any noise. The first part of the road to just behind the coal is simply dramatic, as one would expect from an eastern path. Unfortunately, the second part for back again is just forest highway and also part macadam, which however, thanks to the beautiful view, is not as painful. But because of the coal alone, this path is in any case a recommendation of value

Europe trip 🗺 / 🇱🇺🌾🌳 https://www.komoot.de/tour/272210496 (please note: I missed the junction at km 3.7 😅) Own rating: 6 / 7⭐ Start / finish: free parking near the Gilsdorf church (49°51'56.7"N 6°10'54.6"E) Tour Highlights: - adventurous and varied paths - lots of nature 🍁🍂 - Nature reserve "Schoofsbësch" - beautiful views 🔭 - Tour can be extended at will Briefly summarized: - I didn't meet a soul - well signposted - There were occasional seats 🪑 - Path condition: mostly forest (+ root paths), paved path, rocky paths, gravel / gravel, some meadow and unfortunately also a few meters of asphalt (as well as along the road) A very nice, short and varied tour after work, which was also fun. 😊 There is an adventure section and you always have nice views throughout the tour. A golden retriever jumping around alone distracted me for a short time so that I missed the turnoff and continued at km 3.7 (he ignored me coldly and ran away - probably looking for a master). 😅 In any case, don't make the same mistake - the little path is a bit more exciting than the way I walked! And I was no less frightened than the deer I met 10 minutes later... how can you not hear me, stumping through all the leaves, and then make a noise in the bushes 5 meters right next to me?! 🤣 You can't pull out the camera that quickly and boom, the white butt was gone... 🤭 The tour gets a ⭐️ deduction due to the asphalt sections and the traffic noise at the beginning of the tour. Both were now justifiable for this nice round!
