Depart from the Sondrio train station, following the Adda River, then tackle the first steep climbs towards the Bellavista hamlet. Reach the Maioni district and continue towards the magnificent Ponte delle Cassandre, a suspension bridge 100 meters above the Mallero River. The passage is wide and safe, offering spectacular views of both Sondrio and the entrance to the Valmalenco. This connection allows for a truly panoramic tour without passing through the city center.

Ride steeply up the Valmalenco to Chiesa in Valmalenco on the Sentiero Rusca, a historic route that partially retraces the Strada Cavallera, passing through picturesque hamlets. In Arquino, you can experience the Stelvio in miniature, the hairpin bends of the Sentiero Rusca. As you pedal upward, the forest thins out and the space opens up towards the alpine meadows, while the Mallero stream silently carves the valley floor.

Reaching Caspoggio, at 1,098 meters above sea level, is the pinnacle: a beautiful balcony overlooking the Valmalenco. Here, the panorama opens up with the peaks of Monte Disgrazia, Pizzo Scalino, and the majestic Pizzo Bernina crowning the horizon. To return, retrace the entire tour, reliving the wonders in a different light.

Maioni district (Sondrio)

Highlight • Settlement

Just above the center of the city of Sondrio, the district of Maioni is easily reachable on foot and characteristic. One way to reach it is the mule track that climbs in hairpin bends from Gombaro. From Maioni, you can take paths towards woods and splendid hills.

The bridge is suspended almost 100 meters above the Mallero stream and its Cassandre, the wild gorges into which the Mallero flows as it exits Valmalenco. The walkway is 145 meters long and 3 meters wide and allows you to discover an extremely suggestive but probably little-known area, located between the Via dei Terrazzamenti and the Strada del Vino, two splendid itineraries that characterize the Middle and Lower Valtellina.
