Mountain biking

From the Piano Battaglia parking lot, you set off across the rocky plateau, surrounded by the quiet majesty of the Madonie mountains. The air is fresh, the landscape opens up all around, and the Sicilian light casts a golden glow over everything.

After about five kilometers, the trail gently climbs on a dirt road and winds through the woods. As you gain altitude, the view expands with every bend. At the summit is the Santuario Madonna dell'Alto, perched at 1,800 meters on Monte Alto. Dating back to the 13th century, it is one of the highest Marian shrines in Italy and a pilgrimage destination within the Madonie Park.

From here, the road descends with wide curves, the dirt road gives way to asphalt, and the woods give way to meadows. The landscape softens as you descend towards Polizzi Generosa, a medieval village of Arab-Norman origins, with stone alleys and sweeping views of the valley.

The loop concludes with a long climb back to Piano Battaglia, the starting point. A peaceful finale after a day full of contrasts, including mountain trails, open meadows, and the timeless beauty of the Madonie.
