The Taunus-Wichtel-Weg (Taunus Gnome Trail) combines the best viewpoints with the most beautiful panoramic views around Schmitten. And, as the name suggests, there are plenty of gnomes to discover along the way. This makes the circular hiking trail, which opened this year, fun for the whole family.

This route was planned by komoot.
In terms of natural geography, this tour is located in the Feldberg-Langhals-Pferdskopf Scholle area. This ridge continues northwards from the main Taunus ridge. The mountain peaks still reach considerable heights. The Weilsberg and several other mountains clearly exceed the heights of the peaks on the main ridge. It is a very beautiful region in the Taunus, which, in addition to the beautiful Weil Valley, also has some fantastic viewpoints to offer. I have collected some beautiful tours in this collection. https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/2704800/-feldberg-langhals-pferdskopf-scholle
The Taunus-Wichtel-Weg is a very new (summer 2020) hiking trail that leads around Schmitten in just under 11km. The signage is not sufficient, I had to use Komoot regularly. The path is mostly asphalt or gravel as it mostly leads on forestry or the Weiltal cycle path or partly through Schmitten. Apart from the poor signage, it was a great tour <3
The paths are easy to walk on, and every now and then you go a few metres through the village. The wooden gnomes by the artist Pentti Lepistö are beautifully made along the route. We discovered 16 of them. There are also always beautiful views of Schmitten and the Wiegerfelsen. In summer, the forest swimming pool is a great place to go swimming.
Today I finally tackled the gnome route! What a beautiful tour, carved gnomes everywhere - it never ends -:) There may be a signpost missing in one or two corners - not so easy. I walked this route years ago without komoot but didn't manage it - I just got completely lost. Incredibly beautiful corner - through the woods and around Schmitten. As a reward in the heat, I went straight to the neighboring outdoor pool!
A new autumn tour, with nice weather. Tested the new camera today. With a few interesting pictures. The circular hike around Schmitten is recommended. But be careful, the signage is sometimes missing. Or missing entirely. I always had to check to see if it was true.
"Today I went to Schmitten with my little grandchild, it was fun with him and his funny questions. The weather was really a dream and we walked slowly along the Wichtelweg. From kilometer 9 my little one started to complain, but I am proud of what he has achieved at almost 6 years old.
Almost a week ago we were on the Wichtelpfad near Heidelberg (https://www.komoot.de/tour/1980805124?ref=asol), now we had to test this one. The two are completely different. Today's path is more decorated with wooden artwork and the route is definitely not suitable for younger children. But both were quite nice for posing with the dog 🐶 Disadvantage of this round: The streets there have to be crossed more often 😏

It's not the best starting point - only 3 park slots. I suggest parking near Bärenfichtenweiher (parking is on pin #4 of this trail)
