We park on the outskirts of Montespluga at Lago di Montespluga, on the free parking lot. The steep ascent is initially via a pleasant mountain path and in the upper third through rough boulders. Once at the top we look at Lago Azzurro, where we can take a longer break. The trail follows the western shore, where you meet the Italy - Switzerland border at the end of the lake. We climb even further over blocky terrain to a nameless mountain lake. Back at the junction, it goes steeply over boulders down to the mountain lake with its crystal-clear water. The further descent is again more pleasant via a steep serpentine path to the Splügen Pass. From the pass, the Via Spluga leads down to the starting point.
