This route was planned by komoot.
The trail typically starts in Realdo. You should be able to find parking within the village itself, which serves as the trailhead for this route.
This trail usually takes about 3 hours and 50 minutes to complete. This estimate is for hiking at a moderate pace without extended stops.
The terrain is varied, featuring ancient mule tracks and typical mountain paths. You'll hike through dense coniferous forests and chestnut groves, often on terraced slopes. Wooden bridges cross mountain streams, adding to the picturesque scenery.
The trail is rich in history. You'll encounter the well-preserved original architecture of the Brigasca villages, including narrow alleyways and thatched roofs. Notable historical points include the Rifugio Realdo, the small chapel of San Antonio, and Case Colombera, a former Savoyard outpost. The route also offers views characteristic of the Ligurian Alps.
The trail is classified as moderate, requiring good fitness and sure-footedness. While older children with hiking experience might enjoy it, it may be challenging for very young children due to the elevation gain and varied terrain.
Yes, dogs are generally allowed on this trail. However, as it passes through the Parco Naturale Regionale delle Alpi Liguri, it's always best to keep your dog on a leash to protect local wildlife and respect other hikers.
The best time to hike this trail is typically during spring, early summer, and autumn. These seasons offer pleasant temperatures and vibrant natural scenery. Winter can be beautiful but may present challenges with snow and ice, especially at higher elevations.
No, you do not need a specific permit or to pay an entrance fee to hike this trail. It is located within the Parco Naturale Regionale delle Alpi Liguri, which is freely accessible to hikers.
The village of Realdo, where the trail starts, may offer limited amenities. Along the route, you'll find the Rifugio Realdo, which can provide a welcoming stop for refreshments or a meal. It's always a good idea to check opening hours in advance.
Yes, this route connects to and shares sections with several other official trails. Notably, it covers a significant portion of the Tappa6-Realdo-P.so Garlenda route (72%) and also intersects with parts of the Rot-Weiß (26%) and Sella d'Agnaira - Sella della Valletta (13%) trails. It also serves as a connection route to the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri.
Given the moderate difficulty and varied terrain, we recommend sturdy hiking boots, layers of clothing suitable for changing mountain weather, plenty of water, snacks, a map or GPS device, and sun protection. A first-aid kit is also advisable.
A very beautiful circular hike. I recommend starting at the trailhead at 10:00 a.m., which allows you to reach the highest point with fantastic panoramic views by midday. The trails are mostly shaded. Only short sections are exposed to the sun, where sunglasses and a hat are recommended. High-top hiking boots are also a good idea, as there's a risk of twisting due to the uneven terrain. Realto is a pretty mountain village with places to stop for refreshments.
