Trail Reviews

December 13, 2025, Sentiero dei castellani da Vobbia (giro ad anello con ritorno su asfalto)

This is the final lap of this "Ligurian trilogy," undoubtedly the most spectacular! Starting in the village of Vobbia, you can easily find the "Castellani's Path," marked by a yellow cross and numerous signs that tell the story of the mountain's ancient uses: military (watchtowers, signpost number one), agricultural (chestnut cultivation), and, last but not least, geological/naturalistic (different rock types, botanical species, and tree species). Kudos to the municipality of Vobbia for their dedication to developing this trail. It's a shame, though, because precisely at the most exposed point (the last traverse before reaching the castle) these significant improvements and safety measures hadn't yet been implemented! So be careful, especially in humid weather; the trail is narrow and slippery with leaves! The arrival beneath the castle is spectacular, with views worthy of Meteora, as the castle literally sits "pinched" between two tall conglomerate spires, giving the place an unreal appearance! The castle can be visited on holidays, and I think during the summer months, it's best to check online (a good site is this one: https://www.parcoantola.it/pagina.php?id=47). I took the asphalt road back because I didn't want to retrace the exposed stretch: it descends well to the road (a well-maintained path), then you need to arm yourself with patience and hike for a good half hour to Vobbia!

Pleasant walk, not particularly demanding, but with some exposed points. Beautiful views of the Vobbia valley and the Castello della Pietra
