Not for beginners. We underestimated the tour. But at some point you reach your destination and are proud of your achievement.
Today we took the bus to the starting point in Natz. In South Tyrol, this always works well. It was a steep descent on rough stones to the Rienz Bridge. We cross this with a view of the Rienz, and then go up again on the other side, which is very steep and long. At the Kreuzstöckel chapel, we go down briefly and then up again steeply to the Rodenegg Castle. It continues like this, down after the castle and up again to Schabs. In Schabs, we got back on the bus to go back. I found it exhausting 😰 and the views only appeared after we had crossed the gorge. It was 14.2 km in total...
Today's tour falls into the 'strenuous' category not only because of the weather but also because of the altitude. We started in the shade of the forest towards the Rienzschlucht. The descent was very steep and in places quite slippery due to the loose rock. After the bridge we went uphill again to the highest point of the tour. The panoramic view got better with every meter of altitude. Once we reached the opposite mountain peak, the path was comparatively flat through meadows and forests towards Vills. Part of the hiking trail was closed so we had to take the road. However, as there was little traffic on this road, we made good progress despite the detour. We stopped off in Vills to refill our drinks. At 32 degrees, this was urgently needed🥵. After a quick look at Rodenegg Castle, we headed back towards the Rienzschlucht. The descent was steep and very sunny. After crossing the bridge, we went uphill again towards Viums. Here we extended the route a little so that the path wasn't too steep. In Viums we stopped at the Waldnerhof inn and treated ourselves to a few cold drinks 🥤 for the last few meters. The last kilometer was spent shopping in Natz for the ingredients for our dinner. At the end we were all exhausted and relaxed in the pool😎.
