The Vigiljoch area is car-free, so you'll need to take the Vigiljoch Cable Car from Lana. The trail starts near the Vigiljoch Cable Car Upper Station, making it easily accessible for hikers arriving by public transport.
Yes, it is classified as an easy circular hike, making it ideal for beginners and families. The path is straightforward, and no special equipment beyond low hiking boots is needed.
The Vigiljoch area is generally welcoming to dogs. However, it's always best to keep your dog on a leash, especially in areas with livestock or near other hikers, to ensure a peaceful experience for everyone.
The trail offers beauty year-round. In late winter, you can see crocuses, while summer brings alpine roses, gentians, and wild orchids. The scent of larch trees is present throughout the warmer months. Spring and early autumn are particularly pleasant for hiking.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Glaubensweg meditation trail itself. You will, however, need to purchase a ticket for the Vigiljoch Cable Car to access the car-free area.
The Glaubensweg is notable for its six meditation stations designed for reflection on life's values and themes, offering a spiritual dimension to your hike. It leads to the historic San Vigilio Church, an ancient site believed to be built over a pagan place of worship, all within a tranquil, car-free nature reserve.
You can enjoy magnificent views over the Val d'Adige/Etschtal Valley and the Dolomites. Specific viewpoints include a View of Merano from the chairlift mountain station, a View of the Adige Valley, and several spots offering a View of the Dolomites.
Beyond the meditation stations, you'll encounter the historic San Vigilio Church, dating back to the 13th century with 14th-century frescoes, and the 'Schwarze Lacke,' a natural biotope. The trail also passes through peaceful larch forests and meadows.
The trail winds through a peaceful landscape of larch forests and meadows. It's an easy path, well-maintained, and suitable for comfortable walking without requiring specialized gear.
Yes, the route is part of the Glaubensweg and also passes through sections of the Panoramaweg, 5A, and 8A trails.
The Vigiljoch area, being a popular destination, typically has mountain huts or restaurants near the cable car station where you can find refreshments and meals. The car-free nature reserve ensures a tranquil escape, but amenities are usually available at the main access points.
I finally come to a small description: the parking lot at the cable car was completely overcrowded, so we parked in Lana, P2, about 10 minutes. Walk to the cable car station. There is a combination ticket for the cable car and chairlift. We use it and thus drove all the way up the mountain (from the cable car mountain station it is still >70 minutes on foot to the Vigiljoch. There are numerous hiking trails on the Vigiljoch, which can be combined with each other and thus put together your own individual route Hiking maps are available free of charge at the valley station! There are also numerous alpine pastures - the paths are suitable for prams.
Sunday, September 17th: Greetings from beautiful South Tyrol ❤️! Today we were also on new paths for us. Our destination today was the Vigiljoch 😍 above Lana. First we took the bus to Lana, where we changed to the cable car and then to the Einser chairlift. Our really nice hike began on the Vigiljoch 🥾 mostly on the beautiful faith path, which led along really beautiful forest paths. What a treat after all the asphalt 🥵🥵 from the day before! Even though the hike 🥾 on uneven forest floor was a bit of a challenge for me, it was beautiful 😍😍!
Shortly before the end of the vacation, there was one more wish on my list: Vigiljoch. The cable car and a single chairlift take you up to over 1,800 meters. This gondola ride on the chairlift is simply brilliant: the climb is quiet and slow. The only thing you can hear is the birdsong. Fantastic. Once at the top, we followed the signs for the "Path of Faith" clockwise, with individual stations offering food for thought. You don't have to be religious to enjoy this trail. Just immersing yourself in the forest and glancing into the distance here and there are enough. The Seespitz Inn at the "Schwarze Lacke" biotope, halfway along the trail, is a great place for a break. The viewing platform just before the end is worth mentioning. From here, you can see over Merano and over to Meran2000. It was a very relaxing tour in pleasant temperatures (35 degrees Celsius in the valley today).
