This route was planned by komoot.
Our main goal today was the Algunder Waalweg. There are a lot of irrigation canals in South Tyrol, so we wanted to hike at least one of them. Since the Algunder Waalweg was supposed to be the most beautiful and it wasn't far from here, we decided on that one. Irrigation canals are artificially created waterways for irrigating orchards and vineyards. In this case, the water was diverted from the Etsch. It is about 4.5km long and fairly flat. We walked the same route there and back because 1. it was very beautiful and 2. otherwise we would have had to walk back to the starting point on some asphalt road. We really liked it. We didn't have to take the detour that we had to take on the way there on the way back. The construction work was finished. The heavy rainfall had caused a landslide that blocked the path and demolished the railing.
Since I am currently a little handicapped and because of yesterday's rainy day, we chose the Algunder Waalweg again. For a change, however, we went in the other direction, i.e. "uphill". And in between we enjoyed a portion of chips in Café Konrad with a wonderful view. Both were a first for us. At the end we took the bus back to Merano and Dorf Tirol. Pictures 1 to 4 were taken on the Lingweg and therefore no longer really fit the recording. Komoot refuses to locate them correctly on the map, they are probably too far from the route.
Beautiful Waalweg via Meran... Now off home, before the North Rhine vandals flood the area here in their Duisburg Bochum or Schalke jerseys....
The Algunder Waalweg is a 5 to 6 kilometer long hiking trail that leads along the Waal. The Waalweg is almost flat. Hikers, young and old, are rewarded with a breathtaking view of Lagundo and the entire Merano region.
Super beautiful Waalweg. The last section towards Merano is currently closed due to a landslide. As of April 2024
Such a beautiful, lovingly designed path. Although it was designed for tourists, it's still well worth walking.
The low-hanging clouds prevented us from taking a cable car ride today. Instead, we took the beautiful Waalweg path near Algund.
