This route was planned by komoot.
This specific komoot tour to the Tiefrastenhütte is classified as difficult. While some sources might rate the general route as moderate, this particular 12.1 km hike with over 940 meters of elevation gain requires a good level of fitness and sure-footedness.
The estimated duration for this hike is approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes. This accounts for the 12.1 km distance and significant elevation changes, but actual times may vary based on your pace and stops.
The trail typically starts from the Winnebachtal parking lot in Terenten. You can find a designated Hiking parking lot at the trailhead. Public transport options to the Winnebachtal are available, though less frequent than private car access.
Yes, the trail is generally dog-friendly. However, it's essential to keep your dog on a leash, especially in alpine meadows, near livestock, and around the Tiefrastensee lake to protect wildlife and ensure a pleasant experience for all hikers. Remember to bring enough water for your dog, as natural water sources might be limited in drier periods.
The best time to hike to the Tiefrastenhütte is from late spring (June) through early autumn (September/October). During these months, the weather is generally stable, the alpine roses are in bloom, and the hut is open. Winter hiking is possible but requires specialized equipment and experience due to snow and ice conditions.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Terenten - Tiefrastenhütte Trail. However, parking at the Winnebachtal lot may incur a small fee.
The trail offers diverse scenery and several points of interest. You'll pass through forest paths, alpine meadows, and larchwood forests. Highlights include the Earth Pyramids and Mill Path (Mühlenweg) of Terento, a refreshing waterfall, and various viewpoints like the Bench with a view of the valley and Benches With Mountain View. The ultimate reward is the tranquil Tiefrastensee lake and the Tiefrastenhütte itself.
Yes, sections of this route are part of the longer-distance Pfunderer Höhenweg - Alta Via di Fundres and the Gamssteig. It also follows parts of the local Wanderweg Terenten - Tiefrastenhütte.
Yes, the Astnerberg Alm is located early on the trail, offering a chance for a stop. The main destination, the Tiefrastenhütte, is renowned for its delicious South Tyrolean cuisine, including specialties like Kaspressknödelsuppe, and provides a welcoming atmosphere for hikers.
The terrain varies significantly. Initially, you'll find wide forest paths, but as you ascend, the path becomes steeper and narrower, transitioning to wilder trails through alpine slopes and sparse larchwood forests. Expect sections of dirt road, forested paths, and dedicated hiking trails. Sure-footedness is important, especially on the steeper parts.
Yes, there is a Fountain marked on the route. However, it's always advisable to carry sufficient water, especially on warmer days, as natural sources can be seasonal or not always accessible.
Challenging walk with continuous climbs. First part on a basic road with a stone path
Winnebachtal Parkplatz - path 23 - Astnerberg Alm - path 23 - Lago della Pausa refuge (Tiefrastenhütte) From Falzes continue on the SP40 towards Vandoies for about ten km. Just before Terento, turn right onto via Lerchner in the direction of the Astnerberg hut and the large car park in Winnebachtal (Val Vena). From the car park, continue uphill and steadily on an easy forest road that runs alongside the Rio Vena. After the entrance to the Astnerberg hut (30-40 minutes), continue on the same trail starting to gain altitude with some serpentines through the larch forest. Accompanied by the roar of the waterfall you reach a beautiful recently renovated private hut, where the service road ends. You now begin to climb the side of the valley; when it reaches its peak, a magnificent plain opens up, dominated by streams and streams. Continuing in the NW direction, on a stretch that coincides with the Alta Via di Fundres, you take the last stretch on steps that lead to the base of the Lago della Pausa Refuge and its alpine lake. Return for the same itinerary. NOTES: from here, on a path for expert hikers, the famous Cima di Terento (2,738 m) or the overhanging Kempspitz (2,704 m) is recommended.
You don't actually need to create any highlights, the whole hike is a highlight.
The tour was a bit strenuous, but the view and the hut with super good food and very friendly and attentive staff made us forget all the effort.
Today we went up to the Tiefrastensee and. The deep rest hut. From the beginning it was uphill, first on the gravel road until it went up steeply to the left on beaten paths. Once at the top we were rewarded with a magnificent view. After a good meal on the Alm, we went down the same way again.
Along the Winnenachtal to the Astenalm, then steeply ascending to the plateau with raised moor and at the end of the last ascent to the hut with very good food and swimming in the lake
Unfortunately, due to the threat of a thunderstorm, we had to forego the last stretch to the Tiefrastenhütte. Otherwise, a fantastic tour in the Winnebachtal.
