Highlight • Religious Site
Saint Cyriacus was a deacon in Rome and suffered martyrdom under Emperor Diocletian.
The first construction of the parish church dates back to a Gothic building from the 15th century. This old church was demolished except for the tower in 1851. The current building, in a north-south direction, was consecrated in 1854. We were very impressed by the staircase to the parish church of St. Cyriacus. A look at the pompous facade shows a niche with a Gothic Madonna sculpture by an unknown sculptor. But when we entered the church, we were captivated by the huge interior. The view immediately goes to the huge choir room with the high and two side altars.
The ceiling paintings show the Assumption of Mary and the paintings on the choir arch show scenes from the life of St. Cyriacus, how Christianity defeats paganism. On the stairs to the choir room there is a granite baptismal fountain with the stonemason's mark and the year 1578.
The baroque high altar with its simple column structure carries the statues of Saints Augustine, Sebastian, Florian and Kassian. The high altarpiece, a work by the painter Karl von Henrici, depicts the story of St. Cyriacus.
The cemetery chapel, which was built in the 17th century, represents exceptional architecture with a round choir and a transverse, barrel-vaulted nave; it was enlarged in 1994 and converted into a mortuary chapel.
