Sella Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The Sella Pass (2,224 meters) separates the Sassolungo Massif from the Sella Group and forms a natural border between Val di Fassa and Val Gardena. The view compensates for the arduous climb.

Chalet Margherita

Baita Miara Hütte is the penultimate refuge encountered during the circular tour of the Sassolungo. Take a well-deserved break here if you've been walking for a long time, and enjoy the beautiful view of the whole group.

Federico Augusto Hut

Highlight • Mountain Hut

It's the first refuge you come across if you arrive in the morning. You can't miss the krapfen that they churn out in industrial quantities.

Trail Reviews

Holdi
July 13, 2022, Südtirol: Sellajoch - Plattkofel

It was quite a challenging hike, among many people, but very beautiful

Translated by Google

We stay at the Plattkofelhütte for another night, which is why we were able to leave our large luggage in our room. With a small backpack we hiked this wonderful high-altitude trail with fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. The path ended at the Rifugio des Alpes cable car. Here we had an appointment with BH3000, which was a big hello. 🥳We fortified ourselves with cool drinks, coffee and apple strudel on the beautiful mountain terrace and watched the paragliders. They came from the mountain station with a lot of luggage and flew off under our noses. It was really great, they started almost every minute. There was a lot of life in the blue sky and the contrast between the mountains and the colorful umbrellas was so beautiful. The plan was to walk back the same way, Simone decided on a path into the valley and with many vertical meters back up to the Plattkofelhütte.🥰 Schlofwander and I said goodbye to BH3000 halfway through, we'll see him again tomorrow evening. Then Schlofwandler said goodbye, she wanted to climb the Plattkogel. 🙄 I leisurely walked back along the panoramic path and sat in the sun with a cappuccino. After all, I'm on vacation 🤣🧘‍♂️

Another hiking highlight with daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandchildren, 2 and 4 years old, fantastic views, gifts of nature. The rain for the last 1 hour 10 minutes didn't shock us.

Stunning trekking from Sella pass🏔️ to the Sasso Piatto refuge🏡. Incredible 360 degree views, whichever way you turn you will be left breathless🏔️⛰️. We take ourselves from Canazei to the Sella pass by bike 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ (section not counted on the track) along the state road. From the Sella pass we reach the Friedrich August refuge with its legendary donuts 🍩 (please remember, you have to arrive by 10.30 otherwise you can no longer find the fantastic setup - nor the donuts 😛🔚) and from there we set off on foot towards paradise, along path 557, a succession of climbs and descents that are never difficult and never steep (we also meet families with children), always surrounded by the Dolomite peaks and the green of the pastures which now shine with colorful flowers 🌼🌸. After about 40 minutes we reach the beautiful Pertini Refuge 🏡. We could also stop here but the second part of the route that arrives at the Sasso Piatto refuge is equally fascinating and we still have a lot of breath left. Here some sections are a little more challenging because they are steeper, but still doable (better if with poles but it can also be done without). We pass the Sasso Piatto mountain hut, immersed in a splendid stony valley where the marmots greet us and we see the destination, the beautiful Sasso Piatto refuge with the famous peak at its side. Incredible!!!! Not to mention the dishes we see passing by 🍝, a joy for eyes and stomach. The return is equally magical, with the view of the Marmolada 🏔️ (and everything else) to keep us company. Absolutely not to be missed!!!!

We didn't quite get up to the summit cross of the Sassopiatto and turned back after about 2/3, because we had to climb more and we were increasingly unsure about the descent. This could be of importance to one or the other plainsman.

After spending the night in the Plattkofelhütte, it took two hours this morning to go to the summit of the Plattkofel and after a short break at the summit cross back to the Plattkofelhütte. After a delicious lunch, the hike continued to the Sella Pass.

From the car park at the Sellajoch pass, it's about 1km through a ski area before you get to the Plattkofelhütte via the beautiful and easy-to-walk Friedrich August Weg. We didn't walk to the hut, but took a small path to the right at a fork, which saved us a good kilometer and rewarded us with a bit of fun climbing. The actual ascent to the summit was very strenuous but easy to walk. I saved the last 20 meters to the summit cross. You should definitely have a head for heights here.
