This route was planned by komoot.
We didn't get onto the track that early and had to deal with stragglers for the lower area. And it wasn't peak season either. And not at the weekend either. So the buzzing went on, but I can well imagine that you have to stand in line here on some days. And yes, the gorge is really a highlight and the tour, which is again inspired by "Red Backpack", is awesome. You fight your way down the valley from the ruins of an ancient church, but climb back up so gently and see something of the surroundings and get away from the hustle and bustle. And one or the other worth seeing can also be found here, but above all, nice to walk, almost lonely forest paths. Before you then descend back to the starting point in what we think is the most beautiful part of the gorge. Towards evening, all alone. And just colossal. In any case, we would go there again. It was just wonderful.
We did a great hike today with very good friends. 😍. A tour through the Rastenbachklamm with scrambling over hill and dale 👍. Kjell in his Kraxe had his fun too. 💪. Great impressions and a beautiful panorama of Lake Caldaro.
A beautiful gorge with truly spectacular staircases and bridges. The views are fantastic. We walked the route from Altenburg. It's recommended this way because you walk with the flow of the water and reach the viewpoints from above.
The starting point is the car park at Lake Kaltern, a steep climb towards the Rastenbachklamm, waterfalls - small and large - iron steps and beautiful views of the mountains - but not enough to fill a day, so we jumped in the car and conquered Runkelstein Castle 🏰. It is well preserved above Bolzano, and because that wasn't enough, we pulled out our Bolzano Card to take the gondola 🚠 to Oberbozen on the Ritten. The recommended trip with the Rittnerbahn 🚂 was more of a 👎🏼
The Caldaro Peace Trail is not in any of my hiking guides, I only discovered it by accident. But it is a real gem. It starts at Altenburg, right away with a wonderful view of Lake Caldaro and the mountains opposite. Then it leads over a stony and steep path through the forest in the direction of the Rastenbachklamm. The Rastenbachklamm is really great and is called the "Kalterer Jungle" by the residents here. There are various reflection points along the way. Among other things, the church ruins of St. Peter, a VI. Century built and abandoned in the 18th century church. The tour then ends in Caldaro. The route is easily accessible by public transport.
1. Mountain boots are absolutely important at this time, as there are a lot of leaves and you have to climb a bit. From the valley station we follow direction Altenburg then on to Altenburg to the lookout point. The Kaltere lake looks like a painting and the rose garden looks through the mountains. Descent into the Rastenbachklamm. Could be very slippery when wet! So be careful! You now follow the many steps downhill. If you like, it's the other way around, just uphill. Then back to the valley station. There is great coffee and snacks and cake.
