The CAI 727 trail is generally rated as 'E – Hiking (level)' or 'T2 media', indicating a moderate difficulty. It's considered suitable for a wide range of hikers, including families and children. However, be aware that a variant, the 727A, is more technical and demanding.
The path predominantly winds through forested areas, featuring steep hairpin bends, especially in its initial stages. As you gain elevation, the trail becomes more open, revealing expansive views. You'll experience a beautiful landscape with alpine pastures, dramatic limestone walls, and a cascading waterfall early on. Sturdy hiking boots are recommended for the varied terrain.
The trail is located within the protected area of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park. Generally, there are no entrance fees for hiking within the park. However, visitors are expected to respect park regulations, such as staying on marked trails, not disturbing wildlife, and packing out all trash to preserve the pristine natural surroundings.
Along the route, you'll encounter the beautiful Val Noana Gorge and Natural Pools, a scenic cascading waterfall, and impressive panoramas of Cona di Neva and Sass de Mura. The trail offers wide vistas across Val Noana and the Vette Feltrine mountains, leading to the rustic Rifugio Bruno Boz.
Parking at Val Noana Gorge can get busy, especially during the day. Common starting points with parking include the lot at Buse / El Bèlo. It's advisable to arrive early, particularly during peak season, to secure a spot.
While the trail is within a National Park, dogs are generally permitted on leash. Always ensure your dog is under control and follow any specific signage or local regulations regarding pets in protected areas.
The best time to hike this trail is typically during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn, when the weather is most favorable and the rifugio is open. During these periods, you can fully enjoy the alpine pastures and clear views. Winter conditions can make the trail challenging and require specialized gear.
Yes, the route utilizes sections of several official trails. You will find yourself on parts of Sentiero Pinteri, Strada forestale Neva, and Strada forestale Buse, among others. The Rifugio Bruno Boz itself is also a stage along Alta Via delle Dolomiti n. 2 and the Alta Via Europa 2.
Rifugio Bruno Boz, built upon the old Malga Nevetta, offers a genuine rustic atmosphere with a traditional stone fireplace. It's known for serving excellent meals, including a 'legendary' Sacher torte. The refuge also serves as an ideal starting point for further excursions into the Cimonega group.
Yes, some sections of the Val Noana Gorge feature gentle, broad trails that are suitable for families and those looking for a more leisurely walk, particularly closer to the gorge's entrance. The main CAI 727 route is also considered suitable for families with children.
Given the varied terrain and moderate difficulty, you should pack sturdy hiking boots, appropriate layers of clothing for changing mountain weather, water, snacks, and sun protection. A camera is also recommended for the stunning views and the cascading waterfall.
Comments
In season, I recommend arriving at the car park early, not so much for the parking space (in the 2 km above Fonteghi there are various car parks), but because Val Noana is narrow and from mid-morning onwards, you could easily come across many more car in the opposite …
