Today I was finally able to take a section of the Vennbahn cycle path under my tires, on this route I noticed again how mountainous the Eifel is
A leisurely Eifel bike tour today in the best weather ☀️😎 From Steckenborn to the historical mustard mill to Monschau and back along the Rur and the Rursee via Einruhr, Rurberg and Woffelsbach. In Lammersdorf we took the Vennbahn L48 to Monschau. I've mentioned it several times, for me this is the perfect bike path, whether from north to south or vice versa! In Monschau we just bought something in the historic mustard mill and then drove down to the Rur... ...then along the various cycle paths along the Rur to Einruhr... ...a lunchtime refreshment "thrown in" and then continue just as comfortably on the Rursee via Rurberg to Woffelsbach... ... now it was back to Steckenborn via the usual and perfect branch line. A wonderful tour with perfect weather!!! 👍🏻☀️☀️☀️😎😅🙋🏼♂️
Today, we headed to the Eifel region in glorious weather 😉. Today's starting point was Lammersdorf. From there, we cycled over the hills into the middle Rur Valley and to Lake Rur. The Rur Dam, often referred to as the Schwammenauel Rur Dam, is a dam in southwest North Rhine-Westphalia, in the far west of Germany, that has existed since 1938. It dams the Rur River with a 77.4 m high dam in the border area between the Aachen metropolitan region and the Düren district, forming the 7.83 km² Rur Reservoir. Wikipedia From Lake Rur, we continued to Einruhr. There, we followed the cycle path through the Eifel National Park to Monschau👌. A very idyllic cycle path that leads through varied meadows and forested sections. Monschau is a pretty half-timbered town in the Eifel region, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is frequently visited due to its romantic townscape with its historic castle and the beautiful surroundings of the Eifel National Park. After a stroll through the narrow streets and a light refreshment, we continued on to the historic mustard mill in Monschau. This is a family business, now in its fourth and fifth generations, that has been producing mustard in the old mustard mill for over 100 years. We continue uphill and after a short while we reach the start of the Vennbahn Cycle Path. We cycle this to Lammersdorf, our starting point.
Wow, wow, wow. What a fantastic tour. We really enjoyed this tour: varied, beautiful scenery, plenty of places to stop for refreshments, excellent planning, and simply a great ride. We were on e-MTBs, took our time, and simply enjoyed the day and this tour. Technically, apart from two small sections at the beginning, it was easy to master and a relaxed ride. This tour gets full marks from us. Many thanks.
It was a wonderfully beautiful tour in perfect November weather. Just sunshine and 15-16 degrees Celsius. The tour is highly recommended. It started at Rursee and followed the Rur River to Monschau, then climbed the hill to the Vennbahn cycle path and headed back towards Rursee, passing through Woffelsbach, Ruhrberg, and finally Einruhr. Good places to stop for refreshments and fantastic views.
We drove to Steckenborn and then set off on our bikes...always downhill to the Rursee. Construction work on the embankment...then along the Rur to Monschau...delicious food and drinks...after all, it was my birthday!!! We also drove along the Venntstrasse...and then we were back at the car. We drove back to Hellenthal for ice cream 🍨! It was a pleasant ride!🚴♂️🚴♀️🌞❤️🍨
Man, that was a tour🙈 850 m of ascent‼️ It'll make your butt hurt... but as flatland cyclists, we gave it our all 🚴♀️🚴🚴♀️🚴. Rewarded by the magnificent view and nature, you forget the pain. Everything will be alright! 😉 And when the bike calls again tomorrow, it's all over again 🤣🚴🚴♀️🚴🚴♀️
