Boniface is considered the "Apostle of the Germans" and significantly influenced missionary work in the Frankish Empire. The founding of the monastery on the Frauenberg in Fulda is attributed to him, and his grave is located in St. Salvator's Cathedral. On this circular hike, you'll follow in the footsteps of a key figure in German Christian history.
A suitable parking area is located near Marienstraße below the Frauenberg. Wide, cobbled steps lead you up to the Franciscan monastery with its magnificent garden and monastery church. Passing through the cemetery and a wooded park, you reach the so-called Rondell (Roundabout) with a view of the Horas district, which you then cross. The Boniface Church and the Boniface Fountain vividly illustrate the work of their namesake.
Now you stroll across the green meadows along the Fulda River. Imagine Boniface's student Sturmius looking over the Waides stream here and choosing the Frauenberg as the site for the future monastery.
Passing the watering hole and the carnival fountain, you reach the city center. In front of the imposing city palace, Boniface's gaze rests upon you – a monumental statue stands in his honor. Finally, you visit Fulda's landmark, the Baroque cathedral. The monastery church, the largest church building north of the Alps, once stood on this site. Inside, you will find Boniface's tomb near the crucifix altar.
You return to the parking lot through the Paulustor and along Hundshagen Park.

A tour in the footsteps of Boniface with information boards. Information material is available at tourismus-fulda.de. There are various refreshment stops along the way, the FLORA KLOSTERCAFÉ on the Frauenberg is recommended.
Out of a total of 11 information boards, only 9 have been created. The route is not yet available either. Nevertheless, the tour is worthwhile because it allows unusual views of the city and its surroundings. The information boards are enlightening. The historical recordings are particularly helpful. The tour starts well at the Bonifatius Monument, the planned 10th stop.
We had had our sights set on "him" for a long time. Today was finally the day. After a stroll in Fulda including shopping at the weekly market. The thermometer showed almost 30 degrees, in the city center it felt even more 🥵 Nevertheless, there was no turning back. We started at the cathedral. With the help of the doyo app, you can learn a lot of interesting facts about Boniface, Stormius and all the others from the time of the founding of the Fulda monastery at each of the 13 stations. Reinhard Brussmann and Friedrich Rau speak the texts, which we know very well from the musicals that we often visit in Fulda. The circular route was therefore very beautiful, although tiring today. As a reward, we had good food in the café at the Frauenberg monastery.
A tour in the footsteps of Bonifatius: The Bonifatiusstieg. I was actually already on my way home after a 👚👕🩳👖👟 day of shopping (that was also due again 😀) so I thought why already home, this way is just right, start at 6:30 p.m. below the Frauenberg. He was beautiful! I got to know a completely different Fulda and looked at this very well-known city with tourist eyes. On the way there were many information boards with historical insights, but somehow there are no signposts at all, I snuck the round from Bernd55 KMW... 😊
Today I was out and about with the Rhönklub Neuhof in Fulda. We hiked the Bonifatiusstieg. We started at Frauenberg Monastery. Past the Calvary, Horas Cemetery, Bonifatius Church, Tränke, Hauptwache and Cathedral, we went back along the Pauluspromenade to the parking lot. On this very beautiful tour you can see why Fulda is so beautiful.
Walked the not yet officially opened Fuldaer Bonifatius Stieg. In the most beautiful sunshine, this beautiful climb begins at the Fulda Franciscan monastery "Frauenberg". From here into the depression between Frauenberg and Kalvarienberg to make a detour to the crucifixion group on the Kalvarienberg. You can safely go up the 96 steps on a small asphalt path back down to the roundabout. Here you will be rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view to the east. Continue to the "Park of Tranquility" at the former Horas cemetery. Not far away is the Bonifatiuskirche in Horas and a few meters further to the Bonifatiusbrunnen. From here it continues into the Fulda Aue with a view of the Frauenberg monastery. After a few meters we visit the drinking trough to reach the carnival fountain. There is still no station at the Bonifatius monument, as there was a tourist information center here a short time ago. But straight to the Fulda Cathedral, which also houses a Bonifatius tomb with the tomb of the "Apostle of the Germans". After a steep ascent to the starting point on the Frauenberg, you will be rewarded with food and drink in the Cafe Frauenberg. Here from the terrace of the cafe a wonderful panorama over the land of the open distances. The Rhoen.
So, today I closed the last gap (except for the alternative route over the Kalvarienberg). However, it was too hot for the entire route - and my condition wasn't good enough. The information boards have not yet been set up in three places: Cathedral, Bonifatius Monument and Park der Stille / Alter Horaser Friedhof.
The new, but not yet officially released tour is an easy hike on the Bonifatiusstieg. Information boards at ten different stations point out significant events, whereby the stations "Bonifatiusdenkmal" and "Park der Ruhe" at Horas cemetery are not yet completed. Path markings are also not yet attached. But very well suited for a contemplative hike with local knowledge far away from the urban hustle and bustle.
