Heidesheimer Dünensande

Sandy paths, idyllic ponds, and the beautiful Lenneberg Forest make this hike a true nature experience. On your walk through the Heidesheim dune sands, you can fully enjoy the Rhenish-Hessian panorama without any major climbs.

You start in the heart of the medieval Rhine town of Heidesheim. Along the Wildgraben ditch, you stroll leisurely along the riverside road out of the charming village. Lined with trees and, in some places, tall bushes, you hike along increasingly deeper sunken paths through an almost otherworldly landscape. Your stroll through the "Hangflächen Südostöstlich Heidesheim" nature reserve ends with a fantastic view.

At the top of the Höllenberg, you'll enjoy sweeping views over Rhenish-Hessian and the Rheingau region. Soon, you'll leave the open fields and meadows, the orchards and vineyards behind; you'll immerse yourself in the species-rich Lenneberg Forest. In the shade of the trees, you'll reach the ponds, surrounded by the green forest, quiet and clear, inviting you to take a rest. Like a stroll on the beach, you'll hike along sandy paths back to tranquil Heidesheim, where you can round off your hike in comfort at the Schönborner Hof, the Vater Rhein restaurant, or the Da Valentino pizzeria.
