Hiking

Trail 29 combines a beautiful chapel with one of Medvednica’s most glorious areas of beech forest. A gradual ascent, it’s a route that’s suitable for keen hikers young and old, while it can be easily linked with other routes on the mountain.

To reach the trail, take the 209 bus from Dubrava bus terminal to Čučerje and alight at the last stop in the hamlet of Hukmani. After passing an orchard and a vineyard, you’ll eventually arrive in the Lušanica forest. A track through the woodland takes you slightly to the east of Stari Kip, a minor summit.

Soon, you’ll come to Kapelica Marije Snježne (the Chapel of Mary of the Snows) – a fine sight. The chapel features paintings by Ivan Tomljanović depicting folk scenes from the Čučerje region. It sits below the peak of Stražnjec, one of the finest on Medvednica and an interesting detour if you have the time and energy.

A gentle ascent will bring you into a simply gorgeous region of beech forest, featuring tall, hundred-year-old trees that create stunning woodland. On a bright day, it’s a lovely place to stroll and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of nature. The trail ends at an intersection with Trail 102, just below the summit of Rog.
