The Venice Islands Cycle Route allows you to discover an authentic and unspoiled Venice, far from the traditional tourist routes. Depart for this adventure from the Tronchetto train station. The route involves the use of ferries, so it's best to check sailing conditions ahead of time.
The first ferry takes you to the Venice Lido (San Nicolò), where you begin pedaling on the first island of the route. Sometimes skirting the inner coast toward the lagoon, sometimes the outer coast, you reach the historic center of Malamocco, which captivates with its colorful houses, narrow streets, and typical Venetian atmosphere.
From Alberoni (Rocchetta), another ferry takes you to the tiny island of Pellestrina. Here, at times, it feels like you're pedaling on water. Stop in Portosecco to visit one of the many artisan workshops still embroidering using the ancient bobbin lace technique.
Right at the edge of Pellestrina Island, before the very narrow pedestrian path to Cà Roman (no bikes allowed), a final ferry takes you to Chioggia, where this incredible itinerary ends.

A sore point is reaching the Venice S.Lucia FS station from Tronchetto: poor road signs and difficulty in crossing the Costituzione bridge (with steps) on the Grand Canal.
