This route is only for experts, not only due to the physical condition required to complete it in a single day, but also due to the experience required. The more than 180 kilometers of distance and almost 4,400 kilometers of elevation gain cover practically the entire island.
Since this is a circular route, and due to its length and the number of towns it passes through, you could consider dividing it into more days or starting from an alternative point to Costa Adeje.
The route is ideal for exploring the interior of the island, especially the villages that extend along the southern foothills. The road takes you to Güímar, climbing steadily between altitudes of 400 and 600 meters. This section passes through numerous typical towns, with sea views and a mixed landscape, both agricultural and with typical vegetation.
Take advantage of this journey to make a few stops to refuel and refuel. After passing Arafo, the most demanding stretch of the route begins, about 30 kilometers in which you accumulate almost 2,000 meters of ascent. However, as you climb, you pass through the beautiful forested area and then the spectacular volcanic landscape surrounding Mount Teide.
Once you reach the summit, at around 2,200 meters of altitude, another extremely demanding stretch awaits you. Not because you accumulate more than 400 meters of ascent in about 40 kilometers, but because you do everything at an altitude of 2,000 meters.
The descent is more gentle; once you begin the descent, you begin passing through towns again where you can stop to recharge your batteries. When you complete the adventure, you can mark a great cycling feat on your calendar.
