Hiking

Your hike begins at the Hagen car park, the perfect starting point for exploring Germany's smallest national park. Shortly after setting off, you'll be immersed in the pristine nature of Jasmund National Park. The trail leads you through ancient beech forests, past moss-covered tree trunks, and repeatedly with impressive views of the coast.

After a leisurely hike, you'll reach the Kieler Ufer, where a spectacular natural spectacle awaits you: the largest waterfall in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania! Here, the Brisnitzer Bach and Kieler Bach streams join before plunging into the Baltic Sea from a height of around four meters – an impressive sight, especially after rainfall, when the waters rush powerfully into the Baltic Sea.

To enjoy the best view of the waterfall, descend the stairs to the beach on the Kieler Ufer. There you can watch the roaring water and take in the impressive coastal landscape with its white cliffs. You can then take the same route back or continue along the Hochuferweg path to Sassnitz.

Ancient Beech Forest, Jasmund National Park

Highlight • Forest

Here in Jamsund National Park, right on the coast, stands this ancient and valuable beech forest. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Ancient Beech Forests and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe.

From this point on the high bank path in the Jasmund National Park you have a spectacular view of the Wissower Ufer. The view is particularly good in winter, when the trees no longer have any leaves! Just before (or behind - depending on which direction you come from) you can descend to the beach along the Kieler Bach.
Unfortunately, the path to this viewpoint has been closed since spring 2024 because there were too many collapses last autumn and winter...

If you visit the Kiel waterfront, you should definitely discover the Kieler Bach waterfall! It is considered one of the largest waterfalls in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and plunges from a height of four meters directly into the Baltic Sea.
