Hiking

At the beginning, you'll walk leisurely along the railway line down to the reservoir, where you'll enjoy a beautiful view of the imposing dam wall. The trail then climbs gently across alpine meadows to the Furggaalp, where you can take a short break in a cozy little restaurant before continuing into the cooler forest.

The trail climbs gently to the Grüenseeli lake, surrounded by mighty fir trees. Here you can pause and take in the tranquility of nature. The trail continues flatly along the forest, with the landscape opening up again and again, offering magnificent views of Arosa and the surrounding mountains.

Finally, the trail descends and you return to the starting point of the hike through the Isel. Especially in early summer, it's worth keeping an eye out for the Frauneschühchen orchid. This protected species is native to the shady forest areas here.

The Isel Reservoir, also known as the Arosa Reservoir or Iselsee, has been dammed since 1897. Initially, the dam wall was only two and a half meters high; after several elevations, it is now around twelve meters high. The electricity generated here covers the equivalent of the needs of approximately 2,500 households.
