The Great Walporzheim Loop combines everything a hiker's heart desires: vineyards, distant views as far as the Siebengebirge, the mystical Bunten-Kuh rock, an old tower in the Silberwald forest, the new Flood Chapel, and even a secret bunker. The crowning conclusion: a stop at a winery with a medieval flair.
https://www.ahrtal.de/fuer-dich-da/wandern/rundtour-bad-neuenahr-nr-2-die-gr/tour.html Vineyards, views, forests and then delicious food... it was beautiful in the Ahr Valley.
The grape harvest on the Ahr has begun - for me, the perfect time for a trip to the Ahr Valley. 🍇 As the starting point for the varied tour, I chose the parking lot at the train station in Walporzheim, unlike the original. A detour to the Marienthal monastery was also added. 😉👍🏻 Link to the original tour: https://www.ahrtal.de/touren/rundtour-bad-neuenahr-nr-2-die-gr/tour.html
On the second day in the Ahr Valley, we walked the big Walporzheimer round (No. 2). The sun was shining and the temperatures climbed to 20 degrees. The round begins with the ascent to the fantastic views of "Bunte Kuh" and Fischley. It continues over meadows and through the forest 🌳 to the EVA tower (the observation tower from which you have a great view of the densely growing spruce trees 🤣🤦♀️) to the government bunker and back through the vineyards with wide views over Neuenahr-Ahrweiler! Tip: Afterwards, we stopped off at "Abruzzo", an Italian restaurant with a lovely beer garden in Ahrweiler. There is a large free car park directly opposite, the pizza is delicious and you get the best Italian cappuccino. Highly recommended!
Today we returned to the Ahr River. I have to say, it's a great area for hiking (but also for cycling 😉). We started across from Walporzheim train station. The old station building no longer exists and is currently the final stop for the railway. We then continue towards Dernau with the rail replacement bus service (or from that direction to Walporzheim, of course 😉). First, we climbed through the vineyards (paved) with a great view of Walporzheim, Bad Neuenahr, and of course, Ahrweiler. The sun was our constant companion, as was the wind 💨😅. There were also beautiful forest paths 😃👍🏻. There are three places to stop for refreshments along the tour, fairly close to each other, with something for every taste 😃. We stopped at the Försterhof inn because the architecture of the building intrigued us. It's a must-see. All in all, it was another nice tour.
Red wine hiking trail from the Ahrweiler government bunker car park
Nice little loop near Ahrweiler: partly on the red wine hiking trail (sunny, beautiful views of the vineyards and the Ahr valley), partly through forest and over fields with a view towards the Siebengebirge. The starting point was not well chosen, so we had to drive past many hiking groups...
