February 12, 2023, Teufelsleyweg Hönningen/Ahr

The circular tour leads from the Ahr Bridge in Hönningen (not to be confused with Bad Hönningen am Rhein) mostly on wide forest paths up to the Teufelsley, a mighty 80 m long block of quartzite. Note: Where the tour leaves the easy forest path, there are currently a lot of leaves and the path is not in the best condition. @Michael🌻Thanks for the inspiration for today's hike. We started at the small, free parking lot at the Ahr Bridge in Hönningen. We passed the church and walked between the houses through the small village up to the forest. Up here at the tree line is the entrance to the Teufelsleyweg trail. Given today's warm temperatures, this trail led us quite frequently along well-maintained forest paths. There were a few small forest trails. Every now and then, we enjoyed a distant view as we meandered through the meadows. The highlight of the hike is the Teufelsley, a quartzite rock 80 meters long and 18 meters high. The rock formation has existed since the Devonian period and is located in a nature reserve. There were several opportunities for rest breaks along the trail. The last section led us through the village of Hönningen. Here, the well house and the parish church are the highlights. Throughout the entire circular hike, we encountered one hiker and once the forester in a car. The peace and quiet was incredible. There were no places to stop for refreshments. We then drove down through the Ahr Valley. It's unbelievable how much has still been destroyed here, and despite construction going on everywhere, there's still so much to come for people. Our respect. The stop at Marienthal Monastery was, as always, a delight...
