Forest and meadow paths, trails and some steep sections are part of this typical Eifel route. The starting point is the parish church of St. Wendelinus on the rocky spur in Kirmutscheid. From here the path leads steadily uphill before leaving the Wirftbach valley in the area of the Dreimüllerhof property and leading to the high-altitude town of Hoffeld. Back in the valley, the route continues along the Wirftbach to the Barweiler mill with its beautiful fishing ponds, then further towards the well-known pilgrimage site of Barweiler. Here you reach the "Hömmerich" lookout point. This point is 496 m above sea level and offers a magnificent view of the Dauner Vulkaneifel, the Schneeeifel and the upper Ahreifel. Benches and a lounger invite you to linger before heading back to Kirmutscheid across meadows, Barweiler and paths. All in all, a beautiful round with great views and enough greenery, although there are few places to sit along the way.
This nice circular hiking trail has its charm in every season. If the weather is nice on the weekend, however, a lot of engine noise is to be expected - the Nürburgring is just very close and motorcyclists like the winding side roads. The renaturation measures in the upper Ahr region are obviously crowned with success, because today we were able to observe a young grass snake near the Wirftbach!
