A nice tour for quickly after work, it didn't knock me off my stool ..... From the Wehrbüsch you have a great view of Daun and the Italian ice cream from Lo Stivale at the Forum is really tasty 🙂 The Dauner Sprudel only fills in reusable gas bottles, there are no plastic bottles 👍
https://www.komoot.com/de-de/collection/1053931/-auf-den-spuren-von-natur-und-geschichte-heimatspuren-in-der-vulkaneifel The "Kleiner Dauner" (Little Dauner) HeimatSpur is one of the hikes I've always put off. And wrongly so! The loop is a very balanced symbiosis of small-town and nature hikes. If you enjoy this kind of hiking, the Kleiner Dauner is a good choice! The first half of the hike leads through the outskirts of the city along the Lieser River with its wild "Stadtaue" (city meadows) and the district of Boverath. What appears on the map as a simple forest and meadow landscape behind Boverath is actually a former quarry area. Accordingly, we walk on narrow paths through a massive rocky landscape. Truly very interesting and varied. Kyrill took things to the next level by destroying almost the entire tree population. The terrain has remained as it is. Numerous paths have been trampled between the dead trees, allowing you to explore this windthrow area on your own. Today, however, we'll stay on the "Dauner Kyrillpfad" (Daun Kyrill Trail) and rejoin the Lieser River at the edge of Boverath. We follow the small river along a floodplain path, still frozen in places, to the southern edge of Daun. The spa park, a truly pretty place with all sorts of interesting recreational opportunities, including Kneipp pools, follows almost seamlessly. All the attractions are grouped around a large lake with a water fountain and ducks. Shortly before Gemünd, we leave the spa park and, at the entrance to the tranquil community, cross the Lieser River—for the last time today—over a romantic stone bridge. Directly behind the St. Donatus Chapel, we leave the village and climb steadily uphill on a sandy path. Beautiful views of Gemünd are guaranteed. Our new stopover is the Wehrbüsch Chapel in the middle of the forest. A sea of red lights emanates from its interior. In the gloomy forest atmosphere at this late hour, it is a true ray of hope. From the chapel, the path descends again. We are already close to Daun again and can see the sea of lights of the city shining up towards us. Shortly before the cemetery, the war memorial rises on a rocky hill, similar to a space rocket just before launch. Typically Wilhelminian, built from massive stone blocks, yet with a certain grace. A landing eagle adorns the top. An eye-catcher, the stone plaques list the names of those who died in the last two world wars. We walk along serpentine paths toward the city center, catch one last beautiful glimpse of Daun Castle, and then, via the residential area, reach the city center and parking lot. Conclusion: A beautiful urban-nature route, which naturally runs on a lot of asphalt. However, there are plenty of forest and meadow paths and small trails. Many forest paths are rutted. The tree damage/death of recent years has made a reorientation in forest management inevitable. And we hikers will probably have to go through that too...
https://www.ich-geh-wandern.de/heimatspur-klein-dauner "The "Kleine Dauner", as this tour is called in the Vulkaneifel, can also serve as a calming "downer" despite the spelling. It does not only go through natural areas, but also through populated and mixed zones of the spa town of Daun, but the Strollers can enjoy the interspersed bits of culture and history as they please. We start princely at the local thousand-year-old Daun Castle, which has only been sparsely preserved, but still provides a good overview. You can get there by public transport or your own car, and the first step is to follow the Lieser north. The “KD” trail marker keeps you from getting lost. Despite the proximity to the inhabited area, a cozy atmosphere begins to spread in the network of trees. We soon leave the course of the water again, reaching a forest-meadow mix immediately to the east of the settlement. Fortunately, the separation does not last long, returns to the Lieser and moves south with it. While the green wilderness spreads out on the left, the Lieser and the city continue on the right. An eye-catcher is the masonry of the massive Daun viaduct, which used to serve as a railway bridge. Finally, in the relaxingly designed spa park, it is good to heed the saying “Panta Rhei” (everything flows) by the Greek philosopher Heraclitus – and at the same time to stand still and pause to make progress. In the hiking sense, however, the former is decisive for this. The walk continues to Gemünden, where a chapel marks a change of direction. That means we're going north now. This section is the most peaceful and natural, which is why a leisurely walk pays off. In addition, day trippers have to overcome a steep passage uphill, which ends at the Wehrbusch chapel. The end of the day, on the other hand, can happen in many ways. You can choose among other things a refreshment in the Laurentiusbad, a journey through time in the Eifel volcano museum or an extensive meal in one of several restaurants of different nationalities." Directions by car: Daun train station car park, Bahnhofstrasse 29, 54550 Daun 50°11'56.2"N 6°50'04.5"E
The "Kleiner Dauner" HeimatSpur (Little Dauner) is an 8.5-km circular trail around the district town of Daun in the Volcanic Eifel region. It offers a diverse mix of paved paths and beautiful forest trails. The route runs along a disused railway line, through forests and quiet residential areas to the Daun spa gardens. The return route leads through the "Wehrbüsch" forest back to the city center. The tour can easily be combined with a visit to the Volcano Museum.
Beautiful autumn hike with the hiking friends Uhla through and around Daun 🥾🐶☀️🍁
