A very nice winter tour. ❄️❄️❄️ We started in the countryside and came back as a snowman ☃️ and snow woman ☃️. After the first kilometer it started to snow more and more and within three hours the landscape was powdered completely white. The route would not be particularly attractive for me in summer, as it runs over many wide forest and farm roads and offers little that is special, but now that there is snow it was a great tour. And so the short winter holiday ends with a good portion of snow. When we got back to the car there was 5cm of snow on the car. 😀⛄☃️
Another longer way, because even the sun was shining (was just a fake, as soon as it was our turn it turned gray). You should have added the detour to the Drees, but unfortunately we hadn't informed ourselves beforehand. The path was mostly very easy to walk and only occasionally over wet dirt roads The highlights were the willow catkins gleaming in raindrops and that we found a great Vulkaneifel stone. We also flushed out five deer. But the pom-poms all hopped away in a very relaxed manner. We don't look like we're chasing.
Not far from the small village there is a lava pit, which the HeimatSpur 1000-year-old path leads directly past. Here, the mighty testimonies of volcanism become visible. The Kleine Kyll then accompanies the hiker back to Niederstadtfeld. On the way, unique valley views and natural stream valleys ensure hiking experiences that will be remembered. For nature lovers, the integrated forest and bird trail explains the flora and fauna along the way. (Text source, Gesundland Vulkaneifel.de) I can confirm that. Easy circular route, good walking flow, little frequented, many opportunities to rest. The whole area invites you to more. I'll be going there on my mountain bike soon.
Today's tour gets its name because the two towns Oberstadtfeld and Niederstadtfeld were each founded in 1016 and can now look back on more than 1000 years of history. The path was inaugurated for the 1000th anniversary in 2016. The starting point of the official hiking recommendation is in the middle of the forest (at the former town of Wallenborn) and, according to the traffic sign, cannot be reached by car, although the navigation system happily told us to go. So we started spontaneously from a parking lot in Niederstadtfeld. Alternatively, it would have been possible to start from the church, but tents were set up there because of Carnival. So we start in the historic town of Niederstadtfeld. We soon reach the Wallenborn desert - this place was completely destroyed by fire in 1848. Here we made the acquaintance of a curious squirrel that kept peeking over at us. After a while we said goodbye. On the Kleine Kyll, a flock of sheep debated loudly but fruitlessly about the meaning of life. When we arrived above Oberstadtfeld, the local carnival parade started with loud horns and carnival music. A frightened deer jumped away across the meadow and two horses looked around the corner in surprise. We apologized for the disruption and walked back to the starting point with musical accompaniment. 1000-year-old path: https://www.ich-geh-wandern.de/1000-jaehriger-weg-entdeckstour-rund-um-nieder-und-oberstadtfeld Or with surprisingly little information: https://www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/heimatspur-1000-jaehriger-weg/
Today I walked the thousand-year-old path around Niederstadtfeld. The route starts at the church and you can park here in front of the community center. The route leads over meadow, field and forest paths, sometimes over asphalt and wide forestry paths, but that also makes it a little varied. The signage is consistently good (TW) Anyone who wants to experience the Eifel up close is in good hands here, but anyone looking for highlights will be disappointed. For today we have chosen the HeimatSpur 1000-year-old path around the Eifeld villages of Niederstadtfeld and Oberstadtfeld. It turned out to be a really nice winter snow tour. Started in Niederstadtfeld still in the "green", a short time later it started to snow and before long everything was white. Basically, the path has nothing spectacular to offer, in summer I wouldn't want to walk the path. It goes over wider forest and meadow paths through the Marbachtal, past the lava pit and the Kleine Kyll back to the starting point. Because of the snow it was a really nice tour.
Nice circular route. Will be walked again in better weather and more green.🤠
