This route was planned by komoot.
Looking out the window - weather looks good - hop in the car and drive to Hoherodskopf. My bike and I were let out at the parking lot by the Niddaquelle and my husband rode home. So I hopped on my bike and off we went! It was still quite chilly, but I prefer that to being too hot. The beginning of the Nidda cycle path is unpaved 😉 but still easy to ride. From the steepest point it is paved and easy to ride. Unfortunately the Nidda is hardly visible as the path doesn't really follow the Nidda. But the views are simply magnificent even so. Although it was a bridge day, the Nidda cycle path was very quiet and I was able to enjoy the entire route in peace. From Ranstadt onwards the sun decided to show itself more and I started to sweat a lot. It went really well, and I easily reached the turnoff in Gronau, where I had to leave the Nidda to head home. Part 2 of the Nidda tour will be coming up in a few days, and I'll ride to the mouth of the river and back.
The beginning of the Niddaroutenweg is more "off road" and probably not really pleasant to drive for everyone. Also, the existing crowd bars are no longer really up-to-date - you can hardly get around them as a tricycle, bicycle with trailer or cargo bike... But everyone is very friendly, lots of smiling faces and nice comments. I also met 5 recumbent tricycle riders and there was the opportunity for a little shop talk. Very nice views in a great landscape - just to be recommended.
After the comfortable journey with the Vulkanexpress, a group from Dreiicher 'only' went downhill along the Nidda. Contrary to the original plan - it was supposed to go as far as the mouth of the Nidda in Höchst - I stopped the tour in Ilbenstadt and took the train back from Friedberg. Conclusion: A very nice tour with old companions. It's just a shame that we ran out of time. I would like to thank everyone for the pleasant round.
A real treat for fans who arrive comfortably with the local public transport bike bus and enjoy the downhill stage.
