Today's tour took us back to the Volcanic Eifel after a long time. There we had to complete a very sporty program: in snow and ice we had to do a workout for the stomach, legs, bottom and balance, which went without a hitch. As the name suggests, the Quellenweg offers several springs along the 15 km. Two of them are wells, one is marketed (Nürburgring spring) and several others flow through the Eifel forest with or without names. Shortly before the end of the HeimatSpur we spotted a flock of cranes flying along, trumpeting loudly. https://www.gesundland-vulkaneifel.de/heimatspur-quellenweg/
www.bewegunghilft.de Nice! Despite the weather, but somehow the rain also fit the theme of the trail. And that's why the Eifel is so green.....🙂 The herd of Scottish highland cattle with huge grazing areas in Dreis is impressive. On the way 2 refuges, many picnic areas and numerous benches.
And one more tip. Behind the castle is a very nice and good cafe.👍
Today we decided on the HeimatSpur Quellenweg. But the starting point for us was a hiking car park above Waldkönigen. From here we went through the forest to the Dreiser Sauerbrunnen. The source is in the middle of the forest at a very nice rest area. We also tried the spring water, it tastes very rich in iron. We continued on wide forest paths along the Feuerbach to the Dreis reservoir and on to Dreis. Behind Dreis it goes on dirt roads first to the swamp spring - no drinking water and the wooden walkway is no longer accessible and dilapidated - and then to the Vulkania healing spring with a nice little chapel. We also tried the spring water here. The path then continued around the Dreiser Weiher - one of the largest maar basins in the Eifel. It went uphill on the Döhmerberg with a small hurdle - an uprooted tree - to the French Cross and further in the direction of Dockweiler to the Dockweiler pond and through the village at the lava mine to the parking lot. Almost the entire route only leads over wide forest and farm roads and asphalted roads. Good to walk for the winter season, in summer I wouldn't recommend the trail.
A nice route for a winter hike on frozen ground, but not my favorite at other times. The route contains large parts of asphalt and mostly wide service roads. The dockweiler acidulous water fountain is very nice.
Dreis in the Vulkaneifel, the spring path and the fog A hike in the wind and cold, what I saw was beautiful, as it was mostly faintly outlined by the fog and radiated an unreality that thrilled me. Vulkania, a healing spring, a great name that vaguely reminded me of old Russ Meyer films 😅 but was clearly visible and so I tapped a liter. It tasted very iron-rich and a bit musty... It was swirling the whole time and shrouded everything in mystery. As is already known, fog dampens the acoustics, so not only was everything almost invisible but also almost silent. I was the only one who was clearly defined, visible and audible…..only for me, of course. Exciting. As if moving in a vacuum, looking for something solid and clear, I was happy to experience this phenomenon and refresh my senses. Nevertheless, this hike must be repeated without fog!
A newly tried hike - will be added to the repertoire. A nice mixture of forest and open landscapes, 2 springs and an easy but not boring route.
A varied tour along volcanic springs through the Vulkaneifel. Starting point is Dockweiler. The place is quickly deserted, I pass a lava pit, then I cross an asphalt road and dive into the cool forest. Through a tunnel of the former Eifelquerbahn it goes second to Dockweiler Drees. Here I drink plenty of delicious acidulous water from the cup I brought with me. It continues through the forest and over meadow paths. Again and again there are nice benches. I cross the B410 via a wild bridge. The hike takes me along idyllic meadow paths and lets my soul dangle until I am back in the forest. Sunny paths are repeatedly replaced by cool, fresh forest sections. Short break at the Dreiser reservoir. Again and again there are great distant views and along the way grass and wild flowers bloom in all their glory. Along the way, long-haired Scottish highland cattle delight me. At the swamp spring, or rather in front of the plank bridge, I stop briefly and look out over the moor area. It goes further up and over the B421. I walk through the nature reserve. It goes along the edge of the forest and has a wonderful view of the valley and the silted-up Dreiser Weiher. After a short ascent I reach the French Cross. Look down on Dockweiler. It slowly goes back to the starting point. The hike is a treat for the soul and I learned something new about the Vulkaneifel. The tour is well signposted.
