Including a view of the Immenhof. But unfortunately, we had to move on.
I almost forgot about the lake. I went on a last-minute hike in perfect hiking weather. A beautiful route with many forest paths, but always with a view of the water, and few roads. There are an exceptionally large number of benches for resting along the route. The loop is definitely worth repeating.
In February we start our second Se(he)en tour in cold, clear weather. Today it's about the Kellersee (with 5.5 square kilometers in rank 8 of the largest lakes in Schleswig-Holstein) and the nearby Ukleisee (32 ha). We start at the Seeschloss in Eutin-Fissau, but the former Grand Hotel has left its golden days behind and demolition is imminent. There are plans for a new building. Michael grew up very close by - right on the Kellersee. He reports on eventful childhood days at the lake and in the adjacent forest and can remember exactly which houses were already there and which were added. The Kellersee offers some beautiful bathing spots. In terms of gastronomy, however, some things have "closed up" in recent years - so be sure to take provisions with you! The Ukleisee is idyllically situated and completely surrounded by trees. Above is the hunting pavilion from 1776, which can be booked for celebrations and events. From here and the lake terrace below the lake you have a great view over the Ukleisee. Back at the Kellersee, the path leads through Malente and to the newly renovated Gut Immenhof. We stop for coffee and cake at the Melkhus. A nice ambience and definitely worth a visit for dinner. From here it is not far to the starting point of our successful day tour.
Start and finish: RE 83 Bad Malente-Gremsmühlen train station Start time: 7:55 a.m. Weather: clear to sunny, windy, 8 degrees at the start, 14 degrees at the finish A really nice tour around Kellersee and Ukleisee. You have a nicer view of the lake from the north bank of Kellersee, as it is mostly freely accessible and not built on or privately owned. Unfortunately, you can't get to the lake so easily on the south bank, but that didn't bother me as much as it did, as you could take a closer look at the villas and summer houses. There were a few magnificent buildings and gardens to admire. Ukleisee was also wonderful. The only building there was the small hunting lodge from the 18th century, otherwise pure nature consisting mainly of beech and oak trees. A tour that I can recommend without hesitation. 👍👍👍

Beautiful round around the lake, about 1/5 unfortunately along a road. Compared to the lakes in Lauenburg or even Mecklenburg, there is quite a lot of hustle and bustle, but there is also a good tourist infrastructure.
For my third and final hike in Holstein Switzerland, my father and I headed to Bad Malente. Our goal: to walk completely around the picturesque Kellersee lake. The route is about 15 kilometers long, and in addition to beautiful natural moments, we also received the next stamp for the "Holstein Switzerland Tourist Information Hiking Passport." We started at the Kellersee promenade and decided to walk the circular route clockwise. What's special about this route? You stay very close to the water! Unlike the hiking trails in Bad Segeberg or Plön, where the trail often leads a little further inland due to nature reserves, this circular route offers stunning views of the shore almost continuously. And that's exactly what made the tour so special: Our gaze repeatedly wandered over the shimmering water, while exciting discoveries awaited us on the opposite side – lost places, a former Holstein Switzerland train station, old thatched houses, and impressive nature. We left the main trail several times to take a closer look at special highlights – and were never disappointed. After about ten kilometers, we reached Fissau, where we treated ourselves to a well-deserved break. Fried herring with fried potatoes – simply delicious! We highly recommend the small restaurant. But not only the food, but the entire hiking trail is a real experience. Anyone hiking here should definitely take their time and enjoy nature to the fullest. And we did take our time – including all the breaks, we were on the trail for almost eight hours. But it was worth every single second! As already mentioned, this was my last tour for this stay in Holstein Switzerland. But the next time I'm back home, I'll gradually explore the remaining hiking trails in this region. Because I have to honestly admit: I've never known my hometown to be so beautiful! My curiosity has been piqued – and Holstein Switzerland definitely has many more treasures to offer. But for now, it's goodbye, home – and back to Franconia! The corresponding blog post and video on YouTube will be available at the end of April!
