This loop is classified as a moderate hike. It covers approximately 18.6 kilometers with an elevation gain of about 160 meters, taking around 4 hours and 54 minutes to complete. While generally accessible, it does require a good level of fitness.
The terrain is quite varied. You can expect a mix of flat paths and rocky sections. The southern side of Källtorpssjön tends to have easier, flatter paths, while the northern part can be more technical with rocky landscapes. The trails are often marked with colored paint on trees.
The route offers picturesque natural scenery, including pine forests, marshes, and views of several small lakes like Källtorpssjön and Söderbysjön. Notable highlights include Lake Trehörningen, a beautiful View of Källtorpssjön, and the Källtorpsbadet. You might also spot wildlife such as deer and foxes.
The Nacka Nature Reserve, where this loop is located, is easily accessible. It's just about 20 minutes by bus from Stockholm. The Hellasgården recreational area is a common starting point and is well-connected.
Yes, parking is generally available in the vicinity of the Nacka Nature Reserve, particularly near popular access points like Hellasgården. It's advisable to check local signage for specific parking regulations and fees.
The trail can be enjoyed year-round, but spring, summer, and autumn offer the most pleasant hiking conditions with vibrant scenery. In winter, the trails are also used for skiing, so conditions might vary.
No, there are typically no specific permits or entrance fees required to hike the Källtorpssjön to Erstaviksbadet loop within the Nacka Nature Reserve.
Yes, dogs are generally allowed on the trails within the Nacka Nature Reserve. However, it's important to keep them on a leash, especially during certain seasons or in areas with wildlife, and to clean up after them.
While the full 18.6 km loop is moderate and requires good fitness, making it more suitable for active families with older children, the Nacka Nature Reserve offers many shorter, easier paths. For a less strenuous option, a shorter 5.19 km 'Källtorpssjön trail' is considered easy and might be more suitable for families with younger children.
The nearby Hellasgården recreational area, often used as a starting point, offers amenities such as a wood-fired sauna, opportunities for kayaking, and chalets for rent. It's a good place to find facilities and potentially refreshments before or after your hike.
Yes, from certain elevated viewpoints along the loop, you can enjoy expansive views over the lakes and even catch glimpses of the Stockholm cityscape in the distance, adding another dimension to the scenic beauty.
The whole hike with lunch breaks, taking photos and relaxing actually took me 7 hours. It's definitely a great hike! It's always half shady and half sunny. I liked that a lot. :D It has a lot of lakes and opportunities to go for a swim. Only just a few mosquitoes (at beginning of June in my case).
Autumn is at its peak right now and everything is more colorful than ever! Today was a lovely calm day after several days of rain and wind. I wanted to explore deeper into Erstavik on foot than I've done in the past, so I started at Storängen and joined the green trail eastward until I reached lake Trehörningen its cozy shelter. There I had some lunch and managed to make a fire from pretty moist wood. After lunch I started to head back along the blue trail, a popular MTB trail that I've ridden in the past, but never walked. I came across a few MTB riders today, but not too many. Eventually I reached Tenntorp and took the bus back into the city. This was a really nice route, and lake Trehörningen is an amazing place to visit! The areas close to the Nacka reserve and Hellasgården usually have lots of visitors, but further towards the east of Erstavik everything is surprisingly calm and quiet.
