Trail Reviews

Michael Ficht (Wüste Zeiten)
June 10, 2025, Kyrkösjärvi Nature Trail – Kattilavuoren luonnonsuojelualue bei Seinäjoki (Finnland)

Another Luontopolku today? Luonto = nature. Polku = path. A nature trail, a nature trail! But that's not all: the character of such a designated trail includes information panels placed where the information can be experienced firsthand, so to speak. This is also the case on this Luontopolku: 23 topics are discussed. How did this enormous boulder get here? At the edge of an old tar pit, the schematic structure of the pit is clearly illustrated with a sketch. And who has ever heard of "wind nests" or "snake trees"? How do you explain the name Labrador Tea, a popular name for the marsh tar that grows in the bog? Although I first have to translate everything from Finnish, I'll emerge from the forest a lot wiser. You can read the detailed answers in my book... Want more? You can find more information about nature and sights along this trail in my second hiking book, "Finland on Foot - Hiking between Helsinki and Lapland." Over 500 pages of accompanying background information await you on 1,000 kilometers of hiking through many protected and hiking areas in Finland. My motto: "Walk - See - Understand." Contact me and ask!
