Karkali Nature Reserve is a beautiful forest area on a peninsula in Finland. In Karkali Nature Reserve you will experience the special nature of this herb-rich forest area and the diversity of nature. The nature along the trail is dominated by hazelnut and linden groves - we could eat them fresh from the branches. Sometimes the trail takes you to the shore of Lake Lohjanjärvi and through a forest meadow. There are also some special birds to see and hear. Several round trips from 0.5 to 6 km are available to choose from. Along the 2 km long Hanski Hakki trail you will find information boards that give you an insight into the surrounding nature. The area of the nature reserve is protected for nature conservation and scientific research. Unlike strict nature reserves in general, Karkali is also open to visitors. However, due to the sensitive natural features of the area, which would otherwise be damaged, hiking is only allowed on the marked trails.
The “swimming spot” takes some getting used to for German conditions. Lots of reeds, branches and stones in the water. I was still inside when the air temperature was 8 degrees. Was great.
