Our stage 1️⃣ on the Alpe-Adria cycle path from Villach to Tarvisio: We start in Villach in Carinthia. Highlights are the Arnoldstein monastery ruins with a mountain view, the border crossing into Italy, the wonderful mountain panorama near Coccau and our arrival in the mountain village of Tarvisio.
Today we cycled briefly up the Gailtal Valley from Villach. Then we crossed the border into Italy via Arnoldstein and into the Val Canale (Canal Valley). We rode a short distance along the beginning of the cycle path along the famous old railway line before turning off to our destination for today, Valbruna. The weather held up, but rain and thunderstorms tomorrow?!

In Italy on two-lane cycle paths or untravelled side roads, a dream for German cyclists. Shortly before Travisio, the cycle path runs along the old railway line. A dream, you drive past old platforms and stations.
On day 1, the sky shed light tears, but since we're not made of sugar, it wasn't a problem. The later the day, the nicer the weather, so everything is fine and arrived safely in Tarvisio.🚴♀️🍹🇮🇹🚴. The castle ruins and the Wallnerwirt in Arnoldstein are highly recommended. 🤗
It's very relaxed today on the well-developed cycle path always upstream. Hardly the man breaks a sweat. In between, then a coffee in Austria and at the train station a little think about how far we go by train. There is a special price for the Regio and also for the bike. Then very relaxed on the train, it's empty (which we haven't had for a long time) and we can unpack our picnic.
In Beljak we joined the "real" Alpe Adria. Another couple from Jesenice joined us in Trbiž. Cut off the Garmin and then we moved on…
