The trail offers a varied and challenging experience. You'll encounter a picturesque, hilly landscape, which is unique for central Poland, with rich forests, meadows, and ravines. Expect diverse terrain, including dense woodlands with shaded paths, gentle slopes, and more challenging sections, especially within nature reserves like the Parowy Janinowskie Nature Reserve, known for its dramatic ravines.

How long does it typically take to complete this bicycle trail?

The main route, which is approximately 78.4 km (48.7 miles) long with an elevation gain of about 530m, is estimated to take around 5 hours and 39 minutes to complete for experienced touring cyclists. However, a full day might be needed, especially if you plan to stop and explore the various points of interest.

What notable landmarks and natural features can I see along the way?

The route blends natural beauty with historical sites. Highlights include the Snail Hill Viewpoint, the Battle of Dobieszków Memorial, and the serene Parowy Janinowskie Nature Reserve. You'll also pass by the Old Catholic Mariavite Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Grzmiąca and the Ponds in Jaroszki. The trail also leads through the Łagiewnicki Forest Nature Reserve and past the 19th-century Dworek w Byszewach (manor in Byszewach).

Is this trail suitable for beginners?

No, this trail is generally considered a "difficult" bike ride requiring "very good fitness." Some segments may even necessitate pushing your bike due to the varied and challenging terrain, including significant elevation changes and diverse surfaces. It is not recommended for beginners.

What is the best time of year to cycle this route?

The trail offers beautiful scenery that changes with the seasons. Spring and autumn are generally ideal, offering pleasant temperatures and vibrant foliage. Summer can also be good, but be prepared for potentially warmer weather. Winter cycling might be challenging due to snow and ice, especially in the hilly and forested sections.

Are there any permits or entrance fees required for cycling in the Łódź Heights Landscape Park?

Generally, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required for cycling on public trails within the Łódź Heights Landscape Park. However, always respect local regulations, especially when passing through nature reserves, and stay on marked paths to protect the natural environment.

Is the Bicycle trail through the Lodz Heights Landscape Park dog-friendly?

While the park itself is generally accessible, specific regulations for dogs on cycling trails can vary. It's best to keep dogs on a leash, especially in nature reserves like Parowy Janinowskie, to protect wildlife and ensure the safety of other trail users. Always clean up after your pet.

Where can I park to access the trail?

Parking options are available at various points around the Łódź Heights Landscape Park. A common access point is near the Łagiewnicki Forest, for example, around Wycieczkowa Street. It's advisable to check specific parking facilities or designated areas before your visit.

Does this trail connect with other cycling routes?

Yes, the route extensively covers the "Po Parku Krajobrazowym Wzniesień Łódzkich" trail (98% of the route) and also intersects with sections of other official trails such as "Szlak po Parku Krajobrazowym Wzniesień Łódzkich" and "Szlak Okolic Łodzi".

Are there places to eat or stay near the trail?

While the trail itself is primarily through natural and historical areas, you can find facilities in nearby villages and towns. The Picnic Shelters at Przy Dawnym Młynie offer a spot for a break. For cafes, pubs, and accommodation, you would typically need to venture into the communities bordering the park.

What kind of bicycle is recommended for this trail?

Given the trail's "difficult" rating and varied terrain, a touring bicycle with good gearing and sturdy tires is recommended. The route includes gravel roads, as highlighted by the Gravel Road Through Uroczysko Tadzin-Szymiański, so a bike capable of handling both paved and unpaved surfaces will provide the best experience.

Last time at spow.... BACK... I rode the Black Trail of the Polish Committee of National Defence on 31.08.2013. I had been thinking about it since last year, but there was never time, always something. Today, a bit spontaneously, because I left late and I know that time is running out, but already in Parowy Janinowski I decided that I would go all the way :). The weather was just right, a bit of sun sprinkled about 3 times, I rode a bit on wet asphalt. Well, that changed in 2013, there was no motorway, houses were built, but some things remained unchanged, like an old abandoned cottage, a metal footbridge over the Mrożyca river, although it is being cut by rust ;) In Parowy Janinowskie, beautiful gravel roads were built, where the times when you rode on a forest road through holes were gone ;) Old Wheeler managed, and so did I ;) although I was worried about my knee, I rode calmly. The trail is poorly marked in several places, I rode from memory, slightly assisted by the CZ Map where it is marked in pink. It was left to do it the other way, maybe by Tank for a change, but who knows when, probably in some time, just not after 11 years.

The route is marked as difficult and in fact it is not easy. In addition, the original GPX file was oriented to places that were inaccessible or difficult to pass due to, for example, sowing or construction of a new road through the Janinowski forest (poorly compacted sand on a section of about 2 km). The views alone are really worth pouring a few liters of sweat 👌😏

Mostly easily passable sections, with a lot of potholed roads towards the end.
