Trail Reviews

August 23, 2022, Nordpfad #23 (19/24) Osterberg

After a very short drive from my first north path today (https://www.komoot.de/tour/899836853), another one should be hiked. When I'm in the area. In a good mood after the beautiful first 10 kilometer lap, I parked "at the foot" of the Osterberg. In fact, I could have left it at that. The already short lap of just over eight kilometers could be cut in half and there wouldn't be much to see there either. On dirt roads we went through corn fields, through a huge cattle farm to a forestry road that was so wide that two articulated lorries could easily drive side by side. I then decided to take the 600 extra meters to take a look at the sheep pen. The sight didn't lift my spirits, so back to the truck route. In the further course through the forest and back, the paths were partly made of powder sand. Also a sign of prolonged drought. My shoes and legs looked the same. After a little over six kilometers the forest opened up and I hiked into the setting sun. There is no better mood enhancer. At the end the Osterberg was “climbed”. Hooked and this time unfortunately no recommendation. In a direct comparison of today's two north paths, the first clearly wins. Now there are still five to the 24. That should still be manageable this year.

After dinner, I quickly walked the Osterberg Nirdpfad again.

Sights • Osterberg (58 m): Fintel's highest point and the starting/ending point of the North Trail, offering panoramic views across grassland, meadows, and the village of Fintel. • Osterheide Sheepfold: A typical historic sheepfold on the edge of the Osterheide heath, accessible via a short detour from the main route – a lovely spot for photos and a glimpse into the cultural landscape. • Osterheide: A tranquil woodland and heath area with natural paths, showcasing the diverse landscape between Fintau and Ruschwede. Rest Areas • Himbergsee Rest Area: A somewhat secluded lake with an official rest area, ideal for a longer break; here you can dip your feet in the water and enjoy the peace and quiet. • Bench at Osterberg: At the top of Osterberg, seating invites you to enjoy the view and relax after your hike.

Today I completed the second part of my duty as a trail sponsor on the Nordpfad Osterberg. Since the markings were missing or missing in many positions, this was the main work. The 24 northern paths are signposted throughout according to the marking guidelines of the German Hiking Association. Image 5: Here ants are working hard to form a cluster. To protect the workers, someone carefully put a fence around it. Image 14: Boulders in the middle of the north path? Who's kidding us? Figure 17: Unfortunately, not everything used to be better. However, it's good to remember occasionally.

Unspectacular; Field, forest and meadow paths alternate. Quite nice, but without real highlights.

Guided full moon hike with legends and stories from the district 👻👺🌝

A family hike on Father's Day... what could be better :-) Otherwise, a typical northern trail :-)

Nice tour and despite the current masses of water, it was wonderful!
