The beautiful bike route takes you past nine picturesque lakes south of Leipzig that were created by the open-cast mine. The starting point of the round tour is in Markkleeberg, where you can get from Leipzig Central Station by S-Bahn lines S4, S5 and S6.
From the train station, you cycle east to Markkleeberger See and drive along its east bank. From the bike path you can enjoy wonderful views over the water. After you have also enjoyed the route along Lake Störmthal, you cycle through fields and meadows to Lake Hainer.
Past further, smaller lakes you reach Borna. Here you can take a break or - if you want to split the tour into two stages - also set your stage goal. In the village you will find accommodations and have connection to the S-Bahn to Leipzig.
On the way you go around the Borna storage basin and you come to the Haselbacher See, on the banks of which you will find wonderful sandy beaches for swimming.
From here you cycle along the Schnauder through wide fields, meadows and romantic forests to Groitzsch. From Pegau you follow a piece of the White Elster and finally drive via Zwenkau to the lake of the same name. You roll along the bank to the northern tip and from there to Lake Cospuden. You cycle north on its east bank and again reach Markkleeberg, the starting point of the tour.
