At the end of the Paznauntal just before the toll booth for the Silvretta High Alpine Road, a small road branches off to the right that points to the Koppstausee and Zeinsjoch. After a few curves and a few meters of altitude you will reach both places and you can park your car comfortably in the parking lots in front of both lakes. After circling the Koppstausee a few days ago, we were drawn today to the Wiegensee, a moor lake that has been designated a European conservation area. From the Zeinsee we start on a beautiful mountain path up towards the Verballalpe, the altitude difference is moderate, the path is nice and easy to walk and the view of the Koppstausee and the Silvrettastausee is simply beautiful. Although the clouds are hanging low today and the wind is pulling at us, we enjoy the silence of the mountains and the grandiose atmosphere. Apart from us, there is actually no other hiker on the way. At the Verballalpe we meet a construction crew who are filling in the potholes on the road to the alp. Then we're on our own again. The path makes a sharp bend at the alp and continues almost level, through the slope. On the left a mountain stream rushes through a deep valley. Rugged mountain slopes rise to the right. Marmots whistle shrilly as soon as we come into sight. The alpine roses brush our legs, the gentian and many other beautiful flowers turn the way into a show and amazement after we have enjoyed the farsightedness. Waterfalls that fall from the mountain slopes into the valley must (easily) be crossed. The dam wall of the Koppstausee is almost within reach. The path bends around a ridge and we find ourselves in a high, swampy valley. The path continues on boardwalks until we reach the Wiegensee. Time for a break...... enjoy the silence and the special atmosphere here. We choose the same way back. The alternative would take us deep into the valley below the Koppstausee and then make another ascent to the lake necessary. So we enjoy the pictures of the way there a second time and soon after we arrive back at the Zeinsee.
