Grand Canyon Visitor Center

From the Visitor Center, be sure to continue on to Mather Point for an easily accessible view point. If parking is available, shuttle buses depart from here to all points of the park.

Mather Point Viewpoint

Mather Point is one of the most popular view points along the South Rim. It is easy to get to so you will most likely share it with a lot of people. You can get there by car, parking at the parking lot near the visitors center. If you like a little more solitude, you can take a hike along the Rim Trail next to Mather Point. If you hike left, you hike towards Hermits Rest with stunning view points along the way. A shuttle (red route) will take you back to the visitors center.

If you hike to the right, you will get to South Kaibab Trailhead. Take the shuttle (orange route) back to the visitors center.

Yavapai Point

Yavapai Point is the northernmost spot on the Rim Trail, which spans a few miles of the South Rim. The viewpoint peers all the way down to the Colorado River and looks out over Plateau Point and Yaki Point, which offers awesome views in their own right.

Hermit's Rest

Hermits Rest is the end point of the red shuttle line. From here you can start a hike back on the Rim Trail or a hike into the Grand Canyon on the Hermit Trail which intersects with the Boucher Trail or finally leads to the Tonto Trail after many miles and loss of elevation.

There are restrooms, drinking fountains and a gift shop that also sells maps of the area at Hermits Rest.

The Village Greenway is a 13-mile paved trail that runs through Grand Canyon Village. The trail gives you great views of the canyon and a good chance to see wildlife.

The greenway is well-connected with the shuttle service, so it is easy to hop on a shuttle to get you back to where you started.
