This route was planned by komoot.
This morning I once again took advantage of waking up early to go for a walk before breakfast. I drove to Mastershausen (affectionately called "Masdasch" by the locals) and from there walked the Burgherrenweg. As "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail 2018" it's certainly not an insider tip 😉 but it really is a very beautiful trail! On natural paths you go into the valley, along the stream, past old mill ruins and a castle ruin and back up again, from where fantastic views await you. There are many benches and lovingly designed wooden signs along the way that tell you where you are 👌 I was alone for the first 4 km before my old kindergarten friend and his four-legged friend joined me at the "Balduinseck" castle ruins 😀 We went back to the starting point in good company and now it's time for breakfast 😅 You can find more of my experience reports on the dream loops in the collection: https://www.komoot.de/collection/1099582/
A completely different walk than yesterday, but certainly a beautiful one. Voted Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2018. It was less heavy too, but with yesterday's walk still in the legs it didn't always feel that way 😉
An incredibly beautiful hiking trail that can only be recommended! Absolute "short pants" recommendation! (I usually advocate long pants because of the nettles, blackberry bushes and everything else that sticks in the way) The path is kept in good shape. Lots of steep climbs and descents, but not overwhelming even for people like me. If you like rushing water, rugged rocks, forest and castle ruins, you are in good hands here.
Very nice tour, a real dream loop 😍 on root paths, climbs and narrow paths, which was worth it for us despite the rather long journey. After two thirds of the route you can still add a loop of 6km to the Geierlay Bridge, but that would have been too long for us. It was also quite exhausting because of the route and the humid weather.
From the center of Mastershausen it goes over the access road to the beginning of the dream loop. The weather was perfect. As soon as I have left the place behind me, the path takes me on a gentle ascent with wonderful views. First of all, I wander through harvested fields and meadows. I enter the forest. Before that there is a rest area with a view of Mastershausen. The route leads downhill. Unfortunately, I took a wrong turn there. The hike is very well signposted and you can't actually get lost. Again and again there are wonderful views and resting places. There is the first information board. In the valley you cross the brooks again and again by footbridge. The focus is on the water. The path leads me past ancient mills that have long since fallen into disrepair. Information boards provide information about this. The path leads through almost untouched nature. Suddenly the soaring Balduinseck Castle appears around the bend. It is from the 13th century and was once a stronghold of the Archbishop of Trier against the Sponheimers who lived in Kastelaun. A short detour to the castle is part of it. Then it goes down again and briefly underground. I cross under the street above me through a tunnel together with the brook. On the other side is an alluvial forest in all its beauty. It goes over the stream again and there is an ascent. The next rest stop will reward me again. The path continues uphill. There are great views over valleys and come to the castle hill. The Celts used this ledge. There is also a refuge here. Now it's back down in serpentines and pass the Roman Fountain and read what it's all about. Once in the valley, continue straight ahead and soon the ascent to the Apollo pit begins. I also work up a sweat on the zigzag path. Now the Hunsrück plateau has been conquered. The fantastic views make up for every drop of sweat. Slowly it goes back to Mastershausen. I admire the old oak first. I make a short detour to the small chapel, walk through the farm garden and slowly return to the parking lot. A great hike with remains from another time that are well worth seeing. The information boards provide me with comprehensive information and I can imagine how it used to be. The typical Hunsrück landscape accompanies me.
A great, varied hiking trail that leads a lot along the water. And a multitude of benches that invite you to linger in the hot weather.
To avoid the fog in the Rhine and Moselle valleys, I decided today to take the dream loop Masdascher Burgherrenweg near Mastershausen. I parked and started at the Balduinseck castle ruins! A beautiful and very varied tour, especially now in autumn a super beautiful play of colors 🍁🍂🍄 The tour is very well signposted! A big thank you to the path sponsor or the association that maintains the dream loop!🌻
Then everyone join in, tonight it's time to keep your fingers crossed for the girls 👍👍😁. Did a lap beforehand to calm down. 👨🦯
