The historic village of Gols is considered the largest wine-growing community in Austria. Here you will find a beautiful circular hiking trail on which you can hike through the vineyards around the town. Two great vantage points let your gaze wander over the vast landscape north of Lake Neusiedl. At the same time, you will learn some interesting details about the local wine culture.
You can reach the starting point of your hike at Gols train station from Vienna with the REX63 in about an hour. You first pass through the alleys of Gols and quickly find yourself in the Salzberg wine-growing region. At the highest point, you can enjoy the beautifully designed viewing platform and the view over the vines.
Some information boards along your hiking route inform you about the special features of wine growing in this region and the different grape varieties. This takes you to another great vantage point on the Ungerberg, which offers you magical views over the Pannonian Plain to the neighboring hill ranges and Lake Neusiedl.
To see and taste the region's products at the end of your tour, it's best to go to the Wine Culture House. In the cellars of the oldest building in Gols, you can taste and buy local wines and get expert advice.
