The Marmot Trail was quite a challenge for us lowlanders. It was narrow and almost entirely rocky, with good hiking boots and poles a must. Highlights included two large scree fields, the view from the Kitzköpfle, and Lake Fuglersee. It took us considerably longer than the stated three hours. But it was worth it!
Made my day! What a great tour! We start on the trail of the smugglers, so we walk part of the path that young men from Serfaus took to get cigarettes, chocolate, coffee, etc. from Switzerland and sell them in Innsbruck. Then we turn onto the marmot trail. It takes 3 hours to walk the almost 7 km, which says a lot about the trail - it's everything from a relaxed hike to balancing on stones. We didn't see any marmots. The recent snow must have tricked them into thinking it was winter. However, if you're looking for peace and quiet in untouched nature, this high mountain hike is just the thing. And it has everything a hiker's heart desires - high peaks, clouds, scree fields, a mountain lake and lots of space.
... it wouldn't have needed the short detour after 1.1km - it went :-() Otherwise a nice path, but unfortunately it was way too full for us; at least halfway through. Since we left early, the beginning was still pretty empty until the Furglersee ... The wood-fired pizza at the Lazid hut was a kind of compensation ...
For €30 per person, we took the gondola up to 2030 meters to the start of the hike. The first part leads over the Schmugglersteig with an incredibly beautiful panorama. Sturdy shoes are a must. Even if the route profile seems easy, you should have a good basic level of fitness. From the Furglersee at 2400 meters, it is a challenging downhill walk to the gondola station.
Our walking time: 3:39, elevation gain 255m, descent 624m, km: 7,402 After we had a rainy day in Servaus yesterday, the weather gods are very kind to us today. Today's tour was a dream of mine. In 2024, the tour fell through. It was wet today, too, but only along the trail. There were a few falls in the mud. Hoping for tomorrow that the sun will shine for us again. GPS data from Montana includes a climb that I subsequently deleted.
From Serfaus, take the beautiful panoramic trail through the kingdom of the marmots. Even though there are no major inclines to overcome, the path still requires some surefootedness and skill.
The Komperdell and Lazid cable cars take you up the most altitude. From the mountain station we walked uphill to the Schneid before we got on the Marmot Trail. The trail leads along the ridge and climbs to the Furglersee. After the beautifully situated Furglersee, which invites you to take a break, we continue along the ridge leisurely downhill to the Komperdell mountain station. The path is very busy. We heard a lot of marmots whistling but saw only a few. In between, we have to climb larger steps on blocky rock. Sure-footedness and good footwear are definitely a good idea.
