This route was planned by komoot.
This touring bicycle route is approximately 35.4 km long and generally takes around 2 hours to complete, depending on your pace and how often you stop to enjoy the views.
The route primarily features paved surfaces, making for a smooth ride. You'll cycle along dikes, through wide polders, and coastal areas. While mostly smooth, be aware that the region is known for strong winds, which can add to the challenge.
You'll enjoy continuous views of the Oosterschelde estuary and the Veerse Meer. The route passes through charming villages like Colijnsplaat, Kats, Kortgene, and Wissenkerke. Notable sights include the Oesterput Viewpoint, Oosterschelde National Park, a small beach on the Oosterschelde, Kortgene Harbor, and the Monument for the Drowned Villages in Zeeland. You might also spot 'inlagen' (inland inlets) which are great for birdwatching.
Yes, despite being classified as 'moderate' due to its length and potential for strong winds, the mostly paved surfaces make it accessible for all skill levels. Families with some cycling experience should find it enjoyable, especially on calmer days.
The best time to cycle is typically from spring through early autumn. During these seasons, you can enjoy fields in bloom and fruit orchards. Be mindful of the strong winds that can occur year-round in Zeeland; checking the wind forecast before you go is highly recommended.
While specific parking areas are not detailed, the villages along the route such as Colijnsplaat, Kats, Kortgene, and Wissenkerke typically offer public parking options. It's advisable to check local parking regulations upon arrival.
Generally, cycling routes in the Netherlands are dog-friendly, especially if your dog is accustomed to riding in a basket or trailer. When on foot in villages or near nature reserves, dogs should be kept on a leash. Always clean up after your pet.
No, there are no specific permits or entrance fees required to cycle this route or to access the general areas of Oosterschelde National Park that the trail traverses. However, always respect local regulations and private property.
Yes, the route incorporates sections of several other paths. You will cycle along parts of the Oosterscheldepad - 02, Oosterscheldepad - 03, Noord-Beveland Oost, and Noord-Beveland Midden routes, among others.
Yes, the route passes through several charming villages like Colijnsplaat, Kats, Kortgene, and Wissenkerke, where you can find cafes, restaurants, and pubs to refuel and relax.
This route offers a distinct island ambiance with constant water views of the Oosterschelde and Veerse Meer. It combines charming villages with rich history, ample opportunities for nature observation (including birdwatching and potentially spotting seals), and a celebrated sense of tranquility and open space.
The route "Discover Noord-Beveland" (36 km) follows the contours of the island of Noord-Beveland. On the way you will pass through various villages, such as Kortgene, Wissenkerke, Kats and Colijnsplaat. Noord-Beveland is sandwiched between the Oosterschelde and the Veerse Meer. On most dykes, the cycle path runs in front of the dyke, so you always cycle parallel to the water. Behind the dykes are various polders: wetlands where you can watch many birds. At the foot of the Zeeland Bridge is Colijnsplaat, or Colijn for short. Around 750 tons of fish and 500 tons of shrimp are traded at the local fish auction every year. Especially on Thursdays it's worth checking in here. https://www.zeeland.com/de-de/visit/1489_de/noord-beveland-discover
Thanks to Willis and Sibille's tip, we went along the Oosterschelde towards Colijnsplaat, Kats, Kortgene and Wissenkerke. We just changed direction. The wind is so strong today that we wanted to have it behind us. Unfortunately all the coffee shops and restaurants were closed. After three quarters of the way we found an Asian place in Kortgene where there was delicious food and drink. The price was also absolutely ok. We are surprised at how expensive the corner has become up here. But it's vacation🤷♀️The tour was wonderful and my mom mobile made it through without any problems💗
