The historic La Manche Village Path is a captivating section of the East Coast Trail and the Trans Canada Trail. Starting at the Sacred Heart Church car park, the route takes you from Tors Cove to the remains of the abandoned village of La Manche, where the slate foundations of houses and outbuildings are a vivid reminder of the past. The hiking trail ends at an impressive 50-metre (164-ft) suspension bridge, which offers a spectacular view of the rugged coastline.
Along the way, you can discover a variety of wildlife and, with a bit of luck, spy some otters and nesting puffins on Pee Pee Island. A detour to Doctor's Cove is an ideal place for a quiet break, while a natural pool above the suspension bridge invites you to take a refreshing dip. The La Manche Village Path combines nature, history and adventure and offers an insight into Newfoundland and Labrador's past.
The village of La Manche was abandoned in 1966 after a violent winter storm. There are car parks in the village, so it’s also possible to start your hike here.
