Explore the Green Gardens Trail in Gros Morne National Park, and discover some of Newfoundland’s most distinct landscapes. It’s also a great opportunity for some whale watching – keep your eyes peeled along the coast.
The trail begins on the open serpentine barrens of the Tablelands then continues through dense boreal forests that house moose and black bears. You soon reach the flower-covered slopes of the great volcanic sea cliffs where you can explore the secluded bays that line the coast.
If you want to prolong the experience, you can spend the night at one of the campsites in Old Man Cove. You will need a camping permit for this, which you can obtain from the official information centres or ranger stations.
On the way back, be sure to stay on the path and be careful near cliffs and rising tides. The weather is often more extreme on the coast, so pack appropriate clothing.
