This route was planned by komoot.
The tour started below the Kolbensattelam. It was very foggy at first but soon the blue sky appeared. We continued to the Kolbensattelhütte. This offers a great playground, views, pure tobogganing fun and delicious food. You can also get to the Kolbensattelhütte by lift. We continued to the Kofel. Below the summit you have to climb a little bit, which is also doable for children. The view is breathtakingly beautiful. I would do the tour the other way round next time so that I can stop at the Kolbensattelalm at the end. This tour is not suitable for strollers.
On the first of May on the Kofel in foggy rainy weather with Angela
The Kofel (1342m) is the striking rocky peak directly above Oberammergau and, despite its low altitude, has a great view. But you have to earn it, because the climb to the summit is very well secured with many steel cables, but you still need to be absolutely sure-footed and not afraid of heights in order to master the “easy” climb. Alternatively, you can wait below the summit climb, then it is an easy circular tour that is only somewhat exposed at a small bridge. The descent takes place via the Kolbensattelhütte, which is open during the season and when skiing is in operation, and from which you can also go down on a modern summer toboggan run. Beautiful, varied round tour!
The perfect hike for hot days / varied, shady and also really exciting thanks to the via ferrata to the Kofel
Moderately demanding tour in the Ammergäu Alps in almost summery conditions: Start in Oberammergau at the cemetery or youth hostel (day ticket parking 7€) Past the Mariengrotte, approx. 400m ascent to the intersection. You can choose to continue straight on to the Kolbensattel, over the Rappenkopf (and Brunnberg, Zahn) to the Kolbensattel or climb to the Kofel. The ascent (another approx. 100m) was excellent with a walking time of 15 minutes and I was confused 🤔. The explanation lies in a bit of climbing with several rope-secured sections that require surefootedness but are not particularly technically demanding. 15 minutes were doable and you are on the summit - great panoramic view from Ettal over Oberammergau and Unterammergau and the surrounding mountains. After the descent, we went along the relaxed and almost flat forest path to the Kolbensattelhütte. There is less peace and quiet here, but you do find quick service (and a cool shandy). For the valley direction you have the choice - Kolbensattelbahn (chairlift), Alpincoaster (summer toboggan run) or the descent via the forest path back to the starting point.
Very nice tour over Kofel to the Kolbensattel. A little climb with good security on the way up to the summit. A fast descent on the Alpine Coaster, if you don't have someone braking in front of you.
The rest of the way down with the Alpine Coaster Oberammergau 💪🥵
