Trail Reviews

August 12, 2025, Iserlohn: Den Schälk im Nacken – Wanderung im Vier-Orte-Eck

I highly recommend it. Lots of enchanting trails.

A very varied hike. Unfortunately the Humpferturm (12/24) was closed.

Inspired by the brochure “Wandering in Märkisches Sauerland”, we first went to Letmathe by car. The aim was actually to park there in front of the SGV home. But the barrier was down 😏 So plan B, start in Stübbeken from the village square. Follow the 3. After a short distance, the B236 is crossed and you reach the SGV Letmathe hostel. From here it's up to the Humfert Tower. Unfortunately it is blocked. We continued on some very beautiful paths over the ridge. Enjoyed great views here. After a short stretch, also via the B236, you reach the four-brand tree, a boundary stone for 4 villages. It continues through the forest and you cross the Schälker Heide along the Lollenbach and finally back to the starting point in Stübbeken.

I just had to get out today... to escape the sorrow!🧐 When we picked up the car nearby on Easter Sunday, we stumbled upon hiking trail 3 of the SGV Letmathe. I remembered that I had hiked here many, many years ago!🤔 Do I need to mention that a lot has changed in the forest since then?🤓 Quickly, we found the complete trail (3). (I also noticed that this loop is, according to komoot, "one of the 10 most beautiful in the Märkischer Kreis"!) and saved the tour.😉 However, 8.5 km were simply too short for me, so I added a few detours.💪 This is what resulted: Parked at the tennis courts, we first crossed the B 236, and the forest immediately welcomed us with the most beautiful footpaths!🥰 That promised to be adventurous!😆 On the ridge, the vegetation still allows for a few views to the left and right!🫠 The Humpfertturm (not accessible) is set to be renovated soon! I would be happy about that!👍 From there, back towards the B 236, past beautiful meadows and nice views. Now we descended into the Hasselbachtal. Here there was a completely different "flair" - it felt a bit like a swamp, although that's meant positively!☺️ I discovered primroses and many other things! The paths were quite muddy... But towards Tiefendorf, it soon got better again!😉 The "sleepy nest" was crossed, and now we had to cross the federal highway again. Soon we were at the "Viermarkenbaum" - Here the places Ergste, Berchum, Letmathe, and Hohenlimburg meet.🧐 Immediately afterwards, "the 3" turned left onto a really narrow path, which was again incredibly fun!😆 Soon we were on the Bürenbrucher Weg and the Schälkstraße. We gratefully accepted the bench and "devoured" the cookies we had brought.😋 Now we started the descent and "deviated" from our "3". We turned onto hiking trail 2, which led us in serpentines first down into the valley and then back up again!🥵 Here, the "non-forest" now offers great views of Stübbeken!🫠 We wanted to go high again, the beautiful path lined with broom led us to views high above Oestrich!😃 Then it was time for us to return to the car. CONCLUSION: With the many beautiful single trails, it's really a very nice round! I can also only recommend the detours!😉 Another recommendation "on top":😊 On weekends, the SGV - Heim Letmathe is often open. You can get coffee and homemade cake or pea soup with sausage!😁
